huh?...I thought the 'thimble' thing was just me, being clumsy, lol.
So, other ppl have trouble with it too. I don't hand quilt though, so hasn't come up much, but I like to know about everything! good post :wink: |
You aren't alone Lisa...I can't even use a thimble when I am appliqueing or sewing. I guess either I"ve never found the "right" one or I don't know how to use it properly. Somehow I manage to get the job done though...so I just don't worry about it. Neither should you.

I have a tip that might help with a regular thimble better. Use a hammer and make the thimble into a slight oval shape. It fits and feels so much better. It doesn't fall off. I wouldn't do this with an expensive thimble but it works so great for me I don't need to spend much on a thimble now.

Thimbles, I have had so much trouble! The problem is that my hands are really just huge for a girl. No metal thimbles I bought, no matter how big, would fit on my finger.
Enter my DH, who actually cut a bigger brass one for me on his metal lathe. He indented the tip to accept the needle, and I covered it with a leather sleeve so that it would fit on my finger. I did have to coat the inside of the brass with clear nail polish so that it wouldn't turn my finger green, and I have to redo the leather covering every so often. Other than that, it works perfectly! |

It took me a while to get use to my thimble, but now I can't work without it!!! I suppose the fact that I use those little rubber fingers at work also makes it easy to use my thimble too!!!

Oh wow, I thought I was weird! When I put a thimble on, I wind up using the finger without the thimble. I switch the thimble and the same thing occurs, I just stopped using them. Somebody (may have been my mom) said the size was wrong, huh, LOL!

We've had so many threads about different ones of us not being able to use a thimble. I just feel better that I'm not alone :oops:

I am going to have to try those little pad things. I do use a thinble, but I would like something more user friendly! :lol:
