I'm at work right now - and on a break so sneaking a peak here. I started a new project last night and can't wait to get home to it! Made three blocks last night and went and stared lovingly at them before I went to bed AND took a peak before I left for work. While going about my work I am thinking of the layout of those blocks.

Hello, my name is Jan, and I have a problem!

MaryStoaks 10-26-2010 06:33 AM

Hi Jan, A very common problem, most of us have it.

Hello Jan,
Welcome to Fabriholics Anon. You will not be judged here.
There is no known cure.

lilithcat 10-26-2010 06:40 AM

Hi Jan
I have a problem too. I'm at work sneaking peeks at patterns, mentally searching my stash for what I have and plotting what I'll need. I'm beginning to suspect I just work to buy fabric. Sigh.

JanTx 10-26-2010 06:41 AM

I first noticed I had a problem when I hurried home to intercept the mail for a squishy before my husband could get home and find it. And I'm the thrifty one who usually fusses at him about spending!

Hello, my name is Jan, and I have a problem!

So, Jan, what is your problem?

watterstide 10-26-2010 07:25 AM

Join the club, your in good company!

Hi, my name is kim, and i have the same symptoms as the rest of you!

JanTx 10-26-2010 07:29 AM

"So, Jan, what is your problem?"

Too funny! I started quilting this summer so am really new at this. I've noticed other signs of my addiction, but today is the first day I find myself craving my blocks.

I'm reading a book set in the 1800's and the main character is 87 and a quilter. Her block is in her apron pocket to pull out as needed - complete with thread and needle of course. She says her stitches are the size of grains of rice. It's interesting to read of the lack of materials - including batting - and the steps it took to get a quilt finished. I do not long for the "good old days"!

Ditto!

To paraphrase an old song...."If lovin' fabric is wrong, I don't wanna be right." Hahaha

MrsM 10-26-2010 08:36 AM

Why fight it? Embrace it!

catpawski 10-26-2010 08:44 AM

What is one to do when you just can't help yourself.........

PamS 10-26-2010 08:45 AM

It's only a 'problem' if you perceive it that way(-;
You're in good company, no matter what you call it!

amandasgramma 10-26-2010 08:48 AM

We discussed a 12-step program before......but NONE of us wanted it!!! I LOVE this addiction!

CarrieAnne 10-26-2010 08:49 AM

Please tell me the name of the book, sounds good!

SherriB 10-26-2010 08:59 AM

Hello, my name is Sherri and I share the same problem as Jan. I go to bed at night thinking about the blocks and quilts I want to make. And dream of yards and yards of flowing, cotton fabric!!!

dgsmom 10-26-2010 09:03 AM

i also have that problem, i will work on them in my sleep and my husband will wake me up and tell me i was talking in my sleep about putting quilt together and the layout. i keep asking him if he wrote it done so i know how i was putting it together.

franie 10-26-2010 09:03 AM

I know the feeling well.

Katts 14 10-26-2010 09:09 AM

Sometimes I get so excited before I walk into a quilt store never knowing what new stuff I will find when I go through the door!

JanTx 10-26-2010 11:04 AM

The book is called Prayers for Sale. It's a paperback I got at our library. I'm barely into it so don't know whether it's going to be a keeper or not, but the remarks on quilting have been interesting.

JanTx 10-26-2010 11:06 AM

I have read remarks on here about fondling fabric and thought ... yeah, right! But my latest project is a Moda fabric called Cold Winter Noses. It's a panel and I have fat quarters to make the blocks around it. That fabric just feels good and nicely starched ..... wow.... ah......

As I was piecing it I found myself petting and stroking it. And you all say this is normal!?

Uh oh...I've passed that point! I utilize the lunchroom table to cut my quilt pieces out...and to pin the blocks together...and whatever else I need a big table for!

Anyone else do this?

granny5 10-27-2010 04:57 AM

Oh Jan, - you have become one of us! I also sneak peeks at work and check out websites for new patterns. I don't feel guilty too often!

Linda1 10-27-2010 06:49 AM

I don't want a cure. I just want to sew up some of my stash before the Lord calls me home.

craftiladi 10-27-2010 06:57 AM

Jan, you aren't alone!!!! lol

CGail 10-27-2010 09:29 AM

I got permission to use our break room on weekends to cut things out and to bring machines and teach a class.. and I do it on breaks while at work too..... <sigh>...At work...on my days off.... I am a sick, sick puppy.

msariano 10-27-2010 09:56 AM

Hi, I'm at work too. In my whole office (4 floors in downtown San Francisco) there is one person who quilts. We've taken to bringing blocks, magazines, books, sharing sites, etc. with each other practically every day.! Of course, we are undercover. . .

lilithcat 10-27-2010 09:58 AM

A squishy is a soft "squishy" piece of mail that contains fabric.

dforesee 10-27-2010 10:00 AM

Well, I am reading this while sitting at my desk at work on my lunch break. We have been advised to get away from our desk for stress relief on breaks, but reading this board and browsing quilt patterns on the internet IS my stress relief until I can get home and get back to my quilting.

That is sooooo normal LOL!

Beginner64 10-27-2010 10:22 AM

I find myself going to sleep at night think about what I'm going to do next on the quilt I'm working on and possible new ones.

desertrose 10-27-2010 08:50 PM

Hi Jan welcome from Arizona. I don't think there's anything wrong here and I refuse to discuss it! Everyone I know is doing it so there can't be anything wrong with it. You've come to the right place everyones very gentle with us here...LOL
