Be careful if you test drive a Featherweight Sewing Machine

When I was in Shipshewana, Indiana last month I stopped by an antique shop and looked at an old Featherweight. I turned the light on it and was sewing along and all of a sudden when I raised my right arm up burnt my arm on the light bulb.

Ouch Ouch, bad blister and still looks bad now but no pain in it now.

Just be careful. I didn't buy it as I called my friend that is also on the quilting board as she has one and found out later some of the parts were missing and the guy wanted $425.00 for it.

So I will just keep looking.

Ouch!!! I'm glad the pain has gone away now. Hope you find a good one soon.

That is one for the bad aspects of Featherweights - its lamp gets EXTRA NOT. Have not had the problem with the 301 - hope it's not there.

I hope that you heal completely and quickly. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Too much to pay even if the parts were all there.

I don't use the light at all, I have a bendable light fixed on mine. The little bracket can be removed if necessary so as to preserve the 'vintage' aspect, but the light is a lot brighter to work with, and only gets just warm.

I see them all the time at consignment shops for 50.00 - keep looking...

Sorry you got hurt but if you'd paid that amount for it, you'd have really gotten burned :-) I live in SW IN and I'll keep my eye out and PM you when and if I find something. I got mine at a flea market for $175 with case and some attachments.

I found a bulb that fits the FW at Ace Hardware. It doesn't get as hot as the regular bulbs, not enough to blister so fast but still hot.

Crafty, that's a good tip. It sure does get hot. That price was just plain silly!
