OWWWWW, I'm sure that hurt. My sister did the exact same thing about a month ago. Sorry this happened to you.

I have a 'safety' rotary cutter where the safety part just moves out of safety mode on it's own. It has cut the tip of my left thumb twice. Honestly don't know why I keep it. I guess it's time to toss it.

Ouch! So sorry this happened to you. We all need a little reminder once in a while.

Good habits are as easy to learn as bad habits, beside the thought of getting a finger tip sliced off makes me cringe. So, every single time I finish a cut, I close the safety on the rotary blade. I mentioned this in another thread, but when I took my first piecing class, the teacher told us of a student in a previous class that did not show up for two classes. When she finally came to the third class she was on crutches, in a cast and told the sad story of how her rotary cutter was hidden in her backing fabric and when she picked up the pile to move it the cutter fell off and cut her toes so badly it severed some tendons and she had to have surgery to make the repair. That scared me enough to always wear shoes, and always close the cutter. Fear is a great teacher.
