LOL . . .honestly, I wouldn't mind covering my pressing board with it, but I don't think I'll be using it in blocks anytime soon.

Why? "Cheater cloth" has been around forever, and hasn't ruined pieced quilts at all.

Omigosh... **no** it doesn't!

The real selvedges are soooo much nicer!

I think it is really cute. Would make great purses and bags. I think I might like a quilt made from it. Fun stuff.

This is the 1st time I have seen this and I want some of it!

I agree....it's all about making money....

But if fabric companies didn't make money we wouldn't have any fabric. Every fabric they put on the market is for the purpose of selling it for a profit. Luckily we have so very many choices so we don't have to grow our own cotton & weave it into fabric.
I've actually made several items, totes, quilts, etc from the selvages and I also love this print, I plan to buy it. I really enjoy the more whimsical prints, buy more of those.

Doggramma 05-29-2014 08:29 AM

I prefer seeing people's projects using real selvedges, with different manufacturers. But each to their own. So many choices. That's what's wonderful about quilters and quilting.

I think it is great. I tried saving selvages but that would have taken forever. Needless to say, I bought. Even though this is not an ad site, it sure has a lot of ideas. Do fabric stores wonder, when there is a run on certain fabrics, what has given them such a boost? Must say, it is hard not to buy everything I see. And oh, the search for patterns is never ending. Thank you.

Pennyhal 05-29-2014 09:52 AM

I found myself compelled to start reading the fabric and turning my head sideways to see better! I think it's a great cheater cloth idea.

KathyKat 05-29-2014 09:55 AM

I think it's not as funky looking as using a mixture of different salvedges and not as satisfying as using up something that would probably been tossed. I'll keep saving and using my own. But its a boon to those who like the look but prefer not to spend time saving and using thier own salvedges.

BETTY62 05-29-2014 07:54 PM

As soon as I read the original post I knew I had to have this piece of fabric. It's just to cute to pass up. I see a new purse in my sister's future.

nwm50 05-31-2014 06:54 AM

Oh, oh, oh...gotta have this!! Tried to save enough selvedges to make bookmakers, backpack and lap quilt. This would make time a factor as well as sewing these selvedges together! Thanks!!

A little binge on Fabric.com....

I'm in for a yard. :p

I'm not so sure I'm really wild about this one - partially because it's printed on the bias. I really liked the Moda "Bobbins and Bits" one more. And there was a different one a couple of years ago, IIRC.

In other related news, I got the Cloud 9 Fabrics for the ~~~Ribbon Box Quilt~~~ . I've been salivating over this one for about a month. LOL

Just think you get the look with out all the sewing and how is this different than the shirts, pants and shoes that are purchased with logo's on them. If people are dumb enough to pay to advertise for the seller than the seller will take advantage.

Small design boards

I am making 16” design boards and it’s cute for the dashing!

Hi Manysts
Welcome to the board! :)
I would love to see pics of your design boards.
This fabric must have been pretty popular. This thread was originally posted in 2014, and this fabric is still available in some stores. That's a pretty good run for any fabric these days!
I've used it myself to make a sewing machine dust cover.

I have a purse made of selvages but it has worn out. Would love to use this as the lining to a new purse! I love working with selvages - cut 1.5" off so that some of the "real" fabric shows. It is helpful to keep these anyway in case you run out before finishing a project. My selvage stash has come to my rescue several times!

I expect the shame on you was said with a laugh

Spot on and it is kinda questionable mostly because it has limited useability.
