Caution! Don't do what I did

I was doing some sewing in our motel room and I left the electric cord and machine pedal when we checked out. I was not aware that I had left it until 2 wks later. Needless to say, they couldn't find the missing cord. And now my sewing is on hold until I can find a new cord. My machine is a Janome Stylist 509. Don't make the same mistake I did. :(

Nan C 03-22-2012 07:02 PM

Hope you find a cord soon......that is too bad that someone who cleaned the room could not have been honest enough to turn it in. Good luck.!!

hperttula123 03-22-2012 07:13 PM

Oh no!!!! I've only done that with a phone charger. :) Of course, didn't realize it until a week later.

amandasgramma 03-22-2012 07:21 PM

I did that with a Kindle Charger. The local Janome store should have the cords and pedal you need.

erstan947 03-22-2012 07:24 PM

some lessons are very painful:(

ScrappyAZ 03-22-2012 07:45 PM

One time I left a pair of shoes in a hotel room. I called the hotel and described the shoes and gave them the room# we were in. I pretty much had zero hope of the shoes turning up so you can imagine my surprise when a few days later, the hotel sent the shoes to my home. It's comforting to know that there are honest people and honest companies that do the right thing.

BellaBoo 03-22-2012 07:50 PM

I have left many cords to various items in hotel rooms over the years by relying on other family members to remember to check that everything is packed. I don't allow myself to fret over it. I'll probably lose a few more down the road. Now when I have a cord for anything I try to find a back up on Ebay to have as a spare. I have two cords for all my machines except my Bernina. It never leaves the house.

DebraK 03-22-2012 08:02 PM

lesson learned the hard way ;-(
always unplug from the source.

Hen3rietta 03-23-2012 04:11 AM

Can't help with the pedal, but when I forgot my electric cord at our vacation place, my son came to my rescue with the cord for his PS2 which worked perfectly.

MaryLane 03-23-2012 04:18 AM

I am really surprised they don't have it. We have stayed at hotels before and not brought the charger with us. They have had a box of miscellaneous cords at the desk that they let us borrow from.

Hopefully replacement costs won't be too exorbitant. Really sorry this happened to you.

Nanaquilts44 03-23-2012 04:36 AM

That is a shame the motel didn't save and keep these for you. People leave things all the time in motel rooms and they should have a process to handle these things. I am sorry this happened to you.

Raggiemom 03-23-2012 04:40 AM

Hope you're able to find a replacement soon.

shnnn 03-23-2012 04:50 AM

Most hotels do have a lost and found process of some sort - but even then things get miss placed. When I worked front desk the head house keeper would bring us the found stuff everyday in a bag with the room number on it, but if someone called about something we didn't have at the desk I would sometimes find it in the oddest places. On shelfs in the laundry, or supply rooms, on their lunch table, or under the folding table... I don't think there was ever any malicious intent, but we are all human, and good intentions aside things get misplaced and overlooked (remote control in fridge syndrome). You may try calling back one more time just to see if it's popped up somewhere- or possibly just been tossed in a drawer with the rest of the random cords.

mighty 03-23-2012 06:07 AM

I am so sorry, I hope you are able to get a cord soon.

Krisb 03-23-2012 08:08 AM

Well, it seems no one else has ever left a library book. But I did. You'd think they could send it to the library, but....

If you travel with your supplies often, maybe you need to print a little check list to take each time.
Machine
cord
controller
scissors
scraps
thread
etc

{giggle} ... and where do you think all those misc.cords came from? - forgotten, left behind, abaondoned ...

Sandy64 03-23-2012 09:36 AM

Hard lesson to learn. Your cord and peddle is probably in their spare misc. box. Sorry Sandy 64

Jingle 03-23-2012 12:05 PM

I would not take my sewing machine anywhere. When I go somewhere it is for visiting or sightseeing.

That is what I meant. They obviously KEEP those left behind. Perhaps it is just the obvious "electronics" related type they know someone else will probably need.

I will say that when I was packing up from home to go to my son's wedding 6 hours away I grabbed a machine but now foot controller. I had made all of the dresses and wanted a machine "just in case". My husband is the one that asked me where it was. Machine never left the car but if I had needed it, I had it. I guarantee you if I had NOT gotten that foot controller, I would have needed it!

liminanc 03-24-2012 02:45 AM

My daughter (19) forgot her jacket in the room, realized it when she brought her luggage out to the car, went back to the room for it, walked in and the maid was trying it on....Akward... Hope you get your replacement parts soon

AshleyR 03-24-2012 03:44 AM

I have two stories to share.. both are kinda related to yours :)

I got a killer good deal on a machine in the store because it didn't have the power cord/foot pedal. Obviously, I wasn't even able to test it! My husband inquired at the Sew and Vac store and they wanted to charge my husband $45 for the power cord (not the foot pedal, just the cord....) and I got them both off the internet for $50 total from sewingmachinesplus.com . The store also told him that the machine wasn't worth buying replacement parts for! Once I got my parts, it was fine!

Second story is from when I was staying in a hotel for at least a week (damage to my house, didn't know how long it would take to find temp. housing, etc, etc) so I actually unpacked and used the dresser! (I never do! I usually live out of suitcases) and I found someone else's jacket! It fit me perfectly! I asked them about it at the front desk and they said nobody had called about it and they told me to keep it, so I did! I sent it to the cleaners and now it's my favorite!

Keep calling them, it will probably show up, and since it's nothing nobody else is going to find and keep, it will probably be turned in.

Whether your cords are at the motel depends a lot on the honesty of the cleaners. They may be on ebay as we speak!

Two summers ago, we traveled north to see family, and I left my pillows at the motel and of course we didn't realize it until our next stop. I immediately called the motel and yes, they had the pillows but no pillowcases! I said they were certainly on the pillows when I left the room, and when I come back by in two weeks to pick them up, I darn sure wanted my pillowcases back! Went through it all again when we did stop to get them. I recognized the pillows, but the housekeeper swore up and down there were no cases on them when she found them. Funny thing is, we saw her as we left the first time, said hello... she & her hubby were the only cleaners. So, lesson learned: don't take the pillowcases that match your favorite set of sheets. I hope she's enjoying them. Next time I'll buy junk pillowcases.

But it's worth a try. Call again, maybe they'll have found your cords. I'm crossing my fingers for you!

I left something at a hotel once, and 6 months later it showed up in the mail! I have no idea what took so long, but I was happy that it was returned eventually.....

A1penny 03-24-2012 05:11 AM

You might have to email the company with the info for the replacement!

I have done similar things......once in Europe with a hairdryer converter! Never had a dry head the rest of the trip!

great aunt jacqui 03-24-2012 06:48 AM

my story. Went to Disney with DD 4 yo. when we got home found that her precious Molly Dolly was missing. Called the hotel. the maid had found it and it was mailed out overnight. We were so grateful.. good ending.

Geri B 03-24-2012 06:49 AM

When traveling or even retreats, classes EVERYTHING I bring has one of those mail return labels on it, with my phone # written on it too. So far I have not left anything behind, but there will come a day...hopefully whoever finds it will let me know.......unfortunately, your cord was probably tossed in trash.....sorry.......

gzuslivz 03-24-2012 06:57 AM

When I was about 4-5 years old, I left my beloved teddy bear at a motel. When we discovered it, my folks called the motel. The vacation was a hard one for me without Brown Bear, but he was waiting for me when we got back home. I'm 55 now and I still have him, although I don't travel with him. At least not that I'll admit! lol

gadglady 03-24-2012 07:17 AM

Good morning, you might try interstatesalesusa.com they have cords. looks promising. gadglady

Grandma Kathy 03-24-2012 07:46 AM

Disney is AWESOME with this sort of thing. My 3 yo son lost his Mickey Mouse hat, the kind with the ears and his embroidered name on it. We went to the lost and found, they didn't have it, but they had us fill out a card with our name, address, etc. on it. A week after we got home it showed up in the mail.

faykilgore 03-24-2012 08:56 AM

I'm sorry for your expense and inconvenience, but I'm impressed you had your sewing maching up and running in a motel room. I only travel with hand work.

baglady65 03-24-2012 03:34 PM

I left my good pillow in a room, never take one again!

jkrzemi 03-24-2012 06:08 PM

I did that once.. I called the hotel they have a lost and found. Its worth a try.

wandatn 03-24-2012 07:12 PM

I would get in touch with Janome company-they might send you one.

sewellie 03-24-2012 07:28 PM

As I'm packing I make a list of what I put in. Then when I leave I put a check by each item to make sure that it's all packed. That way I never leave anything. Just a FYI.

some times if you check EBAY people sell parts. Good luck . :)

mama lyn 03-25-2012 04:47 AM

I have also had good luck getting replacements on Ebay and Amazon. Don't fret just replace it and move on! Your sewing will give you much more joy than the regrets will provide!
