Mine has arms. I can adjust them up and down which works out well for at the machine and when doing handwork. Go to office supply store and sit in all of them. Check for lumbar support, back and height adjustment. I went to 4 different stores before I found one that worked for me at a price I wanted to pay.

Happy Birthday - I would go for one without arms. Also before you send him out take time to go try some of the chairs - it won't help if he gets you one that isn't comfortable to you. I use (ok everyone can laugh at me) the bunge chair from the container store and several of my friends have used it for a day and loved it. But make sure that whatever he is going to get you works for you. We wouldn't be happy if DH told us he wanted a wrench and we get to the store and find that there are a zillion choices.

I see everyone is saying no to the arms...but I have two office chairs with arms in my sewing room and I like them...only because I sometimes just sit in my room and watch TV:)

My sewing chair is one I use at my computer desk. It has arms and I would not have one with out. My sewing table is about the same height as the top of my arms. When I'm sewing I can rest the quilt on the arms and it helps me feed the fabric easier. Also when I'm hand sewing I can rest my left arm on the arm rest and be comfortable sewing. I have a bad left arm and this seems to help with the nerve damage. This chair is quite old and hope it can be replaced with something like it.

I have one without arms. I don't think I would want one with arms. I think they would get in my way.

My chair has arms and it doesn't bother me to much. I think you should try out the chair for yourself and see which one you like best. The only time the arms bother me is when I want to turn around to my ironing board to press something. Other than that they are fine. Just try several out and get one that fits your needs. Mine was a gift from a real sweet girl and I will use it all the time. Happy birthday to you as well. Let us know which one you get. HUGS

Arm Chair works for me!

I have used both and the no arms is the best choice as the arms just get in the way. Also be sure to get a good mat to put under the chair to protect the floors and help the rolling of the chair. Be sure to try out several and get the one that suits your body best. Enjoy.

No arms,I got mine at Staples and DH bought it for me but he wanted me to go and pick it out which I'm glad I did because the one he was picking out I didn't like. If you watch online at Staples they go on sale and some of them are in the store. Happy Birthday!!!

I would vote for arms - one that can be adjusted up and down.
