Sadie's Dream for a Cure give tote bag to children with cancer filled with things to keep them busy while in the hospital.
If you email them they will send you the pattern and fabric for the first bag, hopefully you will make more for them. You can go to their web site for all the info. |
What is a fidget mat?

My guild does Vet's quilts, disaster quilts for any family struck with a house fire, flood, tornado, and lap quilts for cancer patients.

A fidget mat, the way I understand it, is to comfort and give tactile stimulation to the often busy hands of dementia/alzheimer patients. A free pattern can be found here: http://www.nancyzieman.com/blog/sewi...-activity-mat/ Many other ideas are posted on Pinterest too. Just make sure items are sewn securely.

I saw a pattern the other day for a holder that goes on the side of a bed. Part of it goes between the mattress and the spring to hold it and it has pockets for remote, magazine, book, phone, etc. Keeps it handy for someone who can't get up easily or reach too far.

What about pillow cases? quick to make, and with coordinating fabrics are really bright and pretty.....For shelters, they can be used to keep clothes or toys in, used as actual pillow cases, etc.....

I have been making mostly lap covers and kids quilts to give to a local food pantry.
When I called to see if they could give them to someone. I was told they like to give them out at Christmas. I will be calling to tell them I have maybe 30 or 40. I make so many quilts it doesn't take but a week of two to make one. I work full time, if I stayed home I could make one a week. The lap size I make will cover one person. The kids size is crib or larger. |
premie quilts are great and small too. look up Annaquilts under donations, she collects them and they take all sizes, even 12" x 12". good luck.
