Charity projects
 

Our quilt club is looking for easy projects for charity gifts. We have thought about lap quilts and the covers for walkers. Can anyone give us some more ideas?

What kind of charity? Do the items go to individuals? How about aprons, hot pads, place mats? If to a senior home the ideas you have are great. Our guild charity projects are all quilts.

If your projects are for nursing homes, how about fidget mats for the dementia patients?

Our guild did a placemat challenge with the placemats going to meals on wheels to be distributed with their meals.

I was thinking similar!

We make all size quilts - all are given locally. Each year we make about 60. Now I hear our local Cancer Center gives quilts to those receiving treatment - patients must fill out an application because not all want one. Possibly the Fire Dept will accept quilts to comfort people. Check with the hospital if they will accept flannel NICU shirts or baby blankets. I'd make a sample for them to see. I know a lady who makes tiny clothes for precious babies who are born early and don't survive. Her daughter is a Labor/Delivery nurse and she suggested it because parents are unprepared. It gives them great comfort to see their baby clothed. I'm glad you are asking because there's many things to do.

I found hospice can always use quilts and the quilts are of great comfort to the recipients.

Pillowcases are easy to do. Children in protective custody can use them, as well as people in any kind of shelter. I know of a group that gives pillow cases to underprivileged children going to camp. A pillowcase can be cheerful and useful at the same time -- in its intended use as a pillowcase, but also to carry things - personal items and even dirty laundry.

I don't know what they are called but they attach to a walker and have various size pockets for different things.

Our guild makes walker/wheelchair bags for the VA hospital and rehab centers, chemo hats (similar to scrub hats) and placemats for Meals on Wheels.
