I just provided my local Project Linus with about 8 large garbage bags of toddler/children's fabric. I had collected way too much and my eldest grandson helped me purge and deliver the fabric -- he was concerned about the charity because he wanted it to go locally but he checked them out online and thought it was a great idea.

I like Quilts For Kids. They will send you quilt kits and all you have to pay is the shipping to you and then the shipping back to them. When I first started that saved me money. Now I head up a chapter and deliver the quilts to the hospitals and fire departments myself

I had a wonderful group that donated quilts of all sizes and kinds to a group in the area that distributed to various charities in the area. I also took flannel receiving blankets to the local hospital for low income families. They wanted a blanket for each baby that was born. I have moved and need to find a group I can join here to donate quilts to. I don't particularly want to join a guild but would rather find a smaller group. I am finally at a point of organizing the house that I am finding a little time to sew. I will go to a couple of local quilt stores to see if they have any suggestions.

oh, couple of other fairly simple projects my guild has done is cancer hats and we also made surgical caps (fun kids fabrics) for the local children's hospital. Also comfort quilts for the local cancer foundation.

Our guild has a Teddy Bear program - we take in used (or new) stuffed animals (Teddy bears and wanna-be's) and make a quilt appropriate to the size of the animal then give the sets to local organizations which work with kids in need. These organizations then give out quilts in whatever way they choose. Which animals? we throw them into the washer and dryer and whichever ones make it thru that cycle will work in our program. The benefits for needy children is obvious - they get a comfort toy of their own. The benefits for guild members? this is a great place to try out a new block, to practice quilting ideas, techniques and to get some instant gratification - since the quilts are usually small it doesn't take long to finish one. Great place to use up orphan blocks - to practice free motion quilting - a small project to make when taking a break from a big project - on and on! we make these year round then once a year we have a Teddy Bear Tea and invite the organizations who receive our animal/quilt sets to send a rep and let us know how they use the items. One young child received his then asked if he could have a few more - when asked why he explained that he would be returning to his remote village for Christmas and wanted to take gifts for other kids in his family - the organization donated them to him and he was proud that he would be able to give something to others at the holiday.

So many wonderful charities and ideas here. My head is dazzled with all the love being poured out here for our quilts. Thanks so much for sharing. I think all of us can use this refresher on just how important our charity quilting is in our communities. Keep on sharing.

The Royal City Quilt Guild is Guelph supplies quilts to the sexual assault department in our local hospital. We are lucky that we have some monetary support for batting from the local Rotary group. Sad as it sounds the hospital absorbs 100+ every year as well those donated to the Angel program for stillborn babies.

I quilt for Project Linus, Quilts of Valor,as well as a group at a local hospital that makes quilts for the terminally ill. The family keeps the quilt as a memorial. The Project Linus group expanded with a new name earlier this year and we also now cover several womens oncology centers and Snowball express. Also check with your local Foster Children program in your county. They may have need for the kid pulled out of homes in the middle of the night.
There are so many places that need blanket to keep people warm. Find one that suits your values and start a group in your home too..
