These are not vintage just a big hit in the modern quilting world - believe it or not. I do love this line but can't pay THAT much for fabric. I have a few scraps of it and am thinking someday I'll run across more or trade for some other out of print fabric. If anyone has this line in thier collection or pieces in thier scrap box pull them out!! They are selling.

I have seen an overseas posting of 4 yds at 23.95 a yd for months. Its based on RC Gorman Indian women. I would love to have it but you would have to fussy cut or cut for applique so there is a lot of black background waste to use it. Course I would cut up all the waste even if it had to be 1inch squares at that price. Her post runs out and she reposts.

I will totally buy some from you but not at the ebay prices! Let me know if you sell them plllleeeeaassseee?

Oh my gosh!! I will buy some if your selling it...
PS.. yep you are rich. I'd sell it and buy lot's of something at a normal price that is equally as nice.

I am just cutting into 1977 Laura Ashley fabric. Should I be selling it on Ebay??
Sometimes I think People get a little carried away on some things and 147 dollars for that few fat quarters is what I called carried away. Too rich for my blood
me too, rather share
Maybe? Its considered vintage (I think)

It's not the age of the fabric that determines the price... its that old supply and demand thing. It's out of print, so what's out there is out there and there won't be anymore. Some writes an article about it, or shows a pattern with something made from it and suddenly everyone wants to have it... and again, just because it is worth that much today doesn't mean it will be worth more or even as much in a year or so... by then, the trendsetters will have moved onto something else. I saw it first hand with the Rose and Hubble flower fairy and William Morris prints a few years ago. Today they sell sell for a lot, but not as much as they did a few years back when EVERYONE wanted them!
If I owned some of this fabric and wasn't absolutely in love with it... I would jump on the bandwagon and sell it now on eBay and use the money for something else that you want now!! The people selling it on eBay now probably bought it by the bolt at a wholesaler after it was discontinued. So, they will just keep selling and relisting until its gone. |
I went to ebay and looked under vintage fabrics and there was the bare chested cowboy fabric that you can still buy in shops. I got a bolt of it when it first came out at Hancocks with my 40% ticket and have made aprons out of a lot of it, same story with everyone who buys the aprons, it a bridal shower gift.

they have got to be out of their minds to pay that for those!!
We pay $6 or $7 here in Oz

We pay $6 or $7 down here in Oz
Sorry about the double posting |
Some has lost their mind. I wouldn't pay that.
Bet that seller is doing happy dances !
That seller had some pretty nice fabrics in her listings. I picked out a few, not bad pricing. Anyways, on our local news tonite, they were talking about cotton doubling in price now and the cost of clothing going up. I just sold half my stash, so I think maybe I better stock up. I looked at the Flea Market Fancy fabric that I have and it is not the same thing, mine is more a cotton twill fabric and I have 3 yards, 1 yd. of 3 different prints. I still plan on making a tote bag out of it for myself. Doubt if mine is worth any more than I paid for it. But that's ok because it is pretty!
I can't believe a sane person would pay that much for a fat quarter. There is no fabric worth that much to me.
holly cow vintage fat quarters I didn't know they had fat quarters back then
there are others there with the bid up to $212 and they still have 5 da it is for 38 ft qtrs wonder what they will go for
I have old feed sacks that I bought at an auction but I only paid $12.00 for them It was a whole box maybe 15-20 and I think I got a deal
That is insane.
Nope, she's a modern designer. This line is just out of print. It'll be interesting to see how much these 9x11 pieces of the entire collection will go for :0)http://cgi.ebay.com/Flea-Market-Fanc...ht_1560wt_1139

Golden threads maybe...? (They're not even that expensive in Australia...ho,ho)
This is way crzy????
Some folks have lots more money than sense.
Someone needs to explain that to me - vintage or not, I think it's nuts!
OMG the bidding started at $99.99.
I am dumbfounded
The thing about the modern designers is that they all seem to be similar....They look sort of retro/modern at the same time.
To me they don't have that much appeal. I mean, I really prefer a nice floral print or wildlife print to them, but I'd use them at the same rate as I'd use any other. It is always interesting to see what people will pay. I once saw a bidding war between some people for John Deere faric. A little bit of fabric went for $100--and I had a bit. I told my family I should sell it... |
If you look at the bid history, it is the same person bidding against themselves. It started out at $99.

Some people read VINTAGE & RARE and just jump on the runaway train without doing any research. As if the seller was asking $99 to start with, well, of course he knew the correct value of what he had. So of course you have to bid higher. And higher. Still not doing any research. I personally never got the whole Denyse thing anyway. Have I ever overpaid for fabric on eBay? Got caught up in the moment? Yep. Been caught in a nuclear bidding war once or twice - and all you can do is laugh when it ends. But I don't think that's what's going with this auction. The bidders really think there is some value in the fabric, either due to the design or it's rarity. <shrug> |
Yikes, did I stretch the board? Sorry, I don't see anything in my post that would do it.
