I put clear packing tape over the edges of my rulers. It really helps to prevent chips. I have some rulers over 10 years old and they are starting to turn cloudy. Oil from our hands and exposure to light weakens them over time.

Never had a problem. I sure will check my rulers today.I have to buy a new one.Will check before I buy. Thank you for info.

Plastic templates with the plastic coating, sometimes make it hard to see chips or slight cracks - I plug in all Christmas lights before I purchase them & I also have the cashier at the pharmacy count all my pills at the counter, before I pay for them - I have been shorted before.

Also, if you buy something from Joanns & it is clearanced - check it over well, becuase they do not accept returns on clearanced items.

yes check even packaged goods we are 85 miles from a home improvement store and bout a ceiling fan got home no screws in the box to put it together went back got another samething went back to the store and they started opening boxes and found the same thing in all of that kind so ended up with a different one but it was all there

I always try to buy Made in USA, but sometimes we are stuck with lower quality, out of country items. Gotta use the coupons to make it affordable.

I have two 12 1/2 inch Omnigrip squares. I was squaring up a block and when I turned it, it still wasn't square. So I put the two rulers together and guess what. One of them is not square. I have written to Prym, but to date have not heard from them. I'm not sure JoAnn's would take it back as I had the unsquare one a while, I just wasn't using it, just carrying it around in my bag that I take to classes, etc. Anyone else had this problem?

i learned my lesson about not checking rulers. i bought a 4 package set of rulers, 8 1/2" , 6 1/2," 4 1/2" and 2 1/2' from joann's and did not notice until i got home that the 2 1/2' ruler had been cut out of the package. i returned to joann's and they gave me the full 4 package set. lesson learned...i now check everything before purchasing.

I just checked the ruler I bought recently (at Joann's). When I first used it I noticed a chip off one corner and just thought it was something I did, possibly putting other packages in the car on top of it. It is an Omnigrip. Thanks for the tip Norva, I'll check carefully on future purchases.

I haven't had a problem with the things I've bought for quilting.

But I was pretty mad on Sunday when I was making soup and needed to use that new jar of ham base I bought about six months ago. I took it off the shelf and removed the cover. Darn - somebody had pulled back the foil for some reason and put it back on the store's shelf. I had to throw the whole thing away!
