We just found out that my husbands grandmother's cancer returned. She had found out about 4 years ago that she had lung cancer. Went through chemo/radiation etc. It was during the winter so all of her hats were warm and fuzzy. She begged me to make her some for the summer. Has anyone made one before? I went on the internet and pulled up doo-rag patterns and so forth. Just wondering how comfy they are on soft heads?! Looking for ideas... I don't want to make something and find out that it itches her head. She would like me to make a bunch and I know you ladies/gents have suggestions or have made them before and know which ones are good and which ones aren't.

do you crochet or knit?? There are very nice, soft, lightweight yarns out there that would work wonders!!! One that comes to mind is Lion Brand Microspun Yarn. It is a lightweight yarn, thinner than your average yarn, and it is SUPER SOFT and has a nice sheen to it!! It is 100% acrylic so it's not itchy at all. I made a scarf for my mom out of a eyelash yarn and used this with it. It really made the scarf softer. It also comes in a lot of colors!!

Here is one idea. I also see my patients wearing bandana type head dress cloths, tied in the back. I think that at chemo centers they have styles to choose from and purchase. I'll do some checking for you. (I am a RN Case Manager for Hospice) Sara

I do crochet, but am not very good with following patterns. I basically can do blankets and scarfs b/c they are just straight. Not sure how well I would do with a hat. I did see those patterns, but figured I couldn't do it. I can use my sewing machine a lot easier!

Those are adorable! I was thinking a scrub cap, but wasn't sure how it would feel on her head. The seams, If they would scratch or not. That hat seems like there wouldn't be much actually touching her head, right!?

Thank you for that site. I think I am going to have to make a couple different kinds and see what would work. It is tough to say how much "coverage" she wants too. I would think she would want more than some of the hats have.
