I remember that one well! I've been slowly stock piling dark chocolate as that is my favorite. Unfortunately, DH is also a chocoholic and keeps reducing my stash!

TexasGurl 02-15-2011 10:13 AM

NOoooooooo say it ain't so !!?? :(

tntgranny 02-15-2011 10:22 AM

How can they raise the cost of chocolate AND cotton at the same time??? There has to be some kind of law against that!!!

koko 02-15-2011 10:24 AM

I hope this is just an inaccurate rumor cause it's hard to stockpile chocolate....if it's in sight it is meant to be eaten! And if it's held at above about 70 degrees you may encounter the unsightly fat blooming (looks discolored/greyish from the fat rising to the surface)

NanaCsews2 02-15-2011 10:30 AM

Ugh! Don't need it daily, but when I need it hard to not think about it. Ever see the shows on TV and the cocoa bean harvesting? You would think there was a shortage. Wait, you can go into a retailer and think that, what with the price of the stuff! Lucky me, I got a 3 lb 8 oz bag (lotta chocolate!) of Kisses and a tulip plant yesterday from DH. I told him he didn't need to get me Dove chocolates this year (my favorite). He must have thought I was still asking for the chocolate, just a different kind... lol
I did hear that the price of cotton was going up. Can't imagine paying more for cotton fabric!

penski 02-15-2011 10:55 AM

oh no i better stock up !!

Susan

The price is gonna sky rocket on a lot of things. Shortage of corn will make groceries go up and up.

I see cotton is double the price it use to be.

Spend NOW while you money can still buy something.
Or put it in the bank and watch it depreciate

grandma Janice 02-15-2011 11:11 AM

do you think we are headed for a black market on Chocolate?

Only problem with stockpiling - if it is in the house, I know it - that little bird keeps reminding me it is there - which means it soon will be gone- As is my waistline. If I have to drive to get it, there is a better chance I won't eat it - MAYBE....

This is going to be a rough year if both cotton and chocolate are going up in price.......UGHHHHHHHHHHH

I heard this too. But I had to give up chocolate when I learned that I am a diabetic. I lost weight giving up sugar. When I miss it I put diet hot chocolate powder on my popcorn, that does the trick for me.

I heard that a lot of things will be an issue because of the cold weather that Mexico has recieved this winter. Isn't there a lot of cocoa grown in Mexico? It seams like all parts of the world we import things from are being hit with bad weather and will make prices higher.

huntannette 02-15-2011 12:07 PM

Chocolat and coton...dang

I might be crazy but I am going to start buying up extra sugar, coco & flour (putting in the freezer). I would subject that everyone also stock up on can goods too. Especially things that don't need to be cooked. You never know what this next year will bring. I am also planting a rather large victory garden this year as was done during WW II. It is time we woke up & smelled the coffee. Things may get bad.

Nolee 02-15-2011 01:54 PM

Can't live a life of fear; that is what the media does to us. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen and there's nothing we can do about it. If it doesn't happen, we are none the worse.

Me too!! Get sick now when I eat any kind of sweets.

Ritacarl 02-15-2011 02:49 PM

Don't forget you Chocolate lovers that chocolate goes bad so be sure and put it in the freezer. Even there it will dry out.

mshawii 02-15-2011 03:12 PM

No it is true. I heard it on the news a few weeks back. Something damaged the crops. Jan

My DH said that he saw in the paper where groceries in general
was going WAY up. What are they trying to do to us? I guess
we will lose weight, want to or not.

quilting cat 02-15-2011 04:47 PM

I've been hearing rumors to that effect since before Christmas, but haven't seen the prices go up much yet. Might want to stockpile a year's supply of your favorite if you see it on special!

OraLee 02-15-2011 04:53 PM

Boy if there is going to be a chocolate shortage that explaines why I dipped so many strawbwrries, apples and bannanas this weekend when I worked for three days at the place called Incredible Edabiles. Never saw so much fruit dipped in chocolate.

I have that problem too, must be the cotton.

bea cda 02-15-2011 05:21 PM

Not only a chocolate shortage; cotton is also having problems. Due to drought in China, floods in Pakistan, decreased exports from India, there will be a world wide shortage of cotton. Minimum price increase of 20% in raw materials. That is going to cost. bea

Sandee 02-15-2011 05:23 PM

Every thing is going UP. I'll just have to starve to death naked since chocolate is my main food group & I won't be able to afford cotton clothes.

butterflies5518 02-15-2011 05:29 PM

OMG! Don't drink, don't smoke, but gotta have my chocolate!

grumpy90650 02-15-2011 05:29 PM

OMG!!! quick, to the store, i will go to walmart, they have chocolate, AND a storage bin to put it in!!! gina

Gosh I guess they will have to use American Farmer grown cotton. What a concept. Go back to the old days of supporting our homeland & not a bunch of dang foreign innuties.

Sharon A 02-15-2011 05:39 PM

If it's true and probably is, then I am going to get some extra cans of cocoa then if I have to have something chocolate I can make it myself. Can't be without Chocolate.

vwquilting 02-15-2011 05:54 PM

Yes I heard that the COCOA BEANS crops are going to be depleated therefor the cost of a candy bar in 2020 will cost $20.00 each.

Patticake 02-15-2011 05:55 PM

How dare they tell you this on Valentine's Day. It's like telling you on Christmas that there is no Santa Clause!

I say, Yes there is a Santa Clause Virginia and Yes, there will always be chocolate.

It may break the bank to buy it but it will be there!

:D

Will they not grow back? The ancient Incas used chocolate as money, It was very valuable.

sewmom 02-15-2011 07:25 PM

chocolate. anything made of cotton, and a lot of produce-all are going up in price because of the weather. probably gas too, but for different reasons.

Marvel 02-15-2011 07:28 PM

On our news this evening!! I can see everyone running to build a stash of Chocolate. How else would we keep our bodies in tune? Marvel

SherriB 02-15-2011 07:45 PM

As bad as I hate to, I will give up my chocolate. I am diabetic, so only good will come from the chocolate prices going up, for me anyway.(Sighing saddly. )

I don't think that's possible, is it? Unlike fabric, the chocolate stash gets "used" just as fast as it appears!!!!!
