Are they pulling your leg???? This is exactly the kind of thing my hubby would say just to tease me!

SuzyQ 02-14-2011 12:47 PM

They were not kidding! I read it in the Business section of the paper. The flooding in Indonesia and other parts of the cocoa producing world have been clobbered. I think stockpiling is in order!

toomanycats 02-14-2011 12:50 PM

Yes, I had heard something to that effect a couple of months ago and it also effects coffee. What isn't going up? First fabric and now chocolate!!!!!

Next thing to go up will be our blood pressure when we can't get chocolate! Say it isn't so!!!!!

Vanuatu Jill 02-14-2011 12:53 PM

Oh no! What is this world coming to?? First, fabric prices going up, now chocolate! What's next? I bet it's a conspiracy cooked up by a bunch of spouses in their last ditch effort to get their partners to pay more attention to them! LOL

Sandy-lou 02-14-2011 12:54 PM

Hmm I think I will have to start a chocy STASH

cmagee84 02-14-2011 01:01 PM

I will not live without chocolate...dark is my choice. Guess I will start a stash now while we still can!

cjomomma 02-14-2011 01:03 PM

Living without chocolate has made my waste line smaller. So it won't bother me at all.

michelehuston 02-14-2011 01:05 PM

I will definately have to work on chocolate stash as well!!

amma 02-14-2011 01:22 PM

I'm right there with you. I only need a little taste every once in a while.

not me if it is in the house I have to eat it. so it would be no good having a stash it would be gone in no time. I don't buy it very often as my waistline neads to shrink not expand, I have no control when it is in the house but I can control how much comes into the house

quilter1943 02-14-2011 03:58 PM

I heard that on CNN too. Just have to buy up what's out there and get a climate controlled storage unit, won't we?

ptquilts 02-14-2011 04:05 PM

Now is the perfect time!! Tomorrow all the V-day candy will be half off!!Stock up!!

quilter1943 02-14-2011 04:09 PM

Amen to this!

Honey 02-14-2011 04:40 PM

Nope, not kidding. They say that chocolate and coffee, among other things, are going to go sky high. One article that I read said that chocolate could go to $10 a pound!

If you can vacuum pack it, store it in the freezer. Stays fresh that way when you open it. Also, make small packages to out smart yourself when you thaw to eat.

And one of the African countries on the Ivory Coast have stopped exporting their cocoa beans so that too is putting a huge strain on chocolate availability. Their beans, apparantly, are used for the higher % bitter chocolate too, so that will hit me hard, but I guess it is time to cut back and lose some pounds!

My thought exactly (New England brain cells). When I stock up on sale candy, I hide it in the freezer. However, be sure to double wrap in freezer paper, and write "Chicken Hearts" or "Liver" on the outside to keep out the family snackers.

CarrieAnne 02-15-2011 04:01 AM

I better stock up a bit!

Woolie 02-15-2011 05:06 AM

They probably misunderstood...it was a cotton shortage but hey...cotton...chocolate...a shortage is a disaster either way!!!!

I have also heard this. Please don't take my chocolate or coffee.

pipp5 02-15-2011 05:19 AM

I heard the same thing..... how will we survive??? More importantly, how will those around us survive when we can't get our fix????

Dodee 02-15-2011 05:23 AM

It's true. My husband saw it, too.

Riversong 02-15-2011 05:41 AM

I am diabetic so I seldom have it anyway. If I have it around I eat too much.So might be a good thing for me.

mhansen6 02-15-2011 07:31 AM

If it was priced out of reach then maybe I wouldn't eat it.

rexie 02-15-2011 07:49 AM

Chocolate and cotton...what next?

ShirlinAZ 02-15-2011 07:52 AM

I am a recovering chocaholic. I also had severe PMDD. A lovely nurse practitioner started me taking B6 and Magnesium. Did you know that chocolate is very high in Magnesium and a deficiency can be what makes us chocaholics? At least that's what I learned. I enjoy an occasional good chocolate a whole lot more now that I don't have to have it.

I sure hope not. I have been on the dark chocolate so long that regular milk doesn't taste good to me anymore.

debbieumphress 02-15-2011 09:05 AM

Supposedly by 2012, chocolate bars will be $10.00+. Now, not only do we need to stock up on fabric, we have to hoard the chocolate too. Picture a lot of chocolate covered cherries here and enjoy. :)

Diannia 02-15-2011 09:09 AM

Hummm stockpile or stop eating it. I stopped eating it several years ago for several months. I needed extra prayer time for my family so every time I felt an urge for choc I would stop and pray. It worked very well for about a month then the cravings stopped. After a couple of months I started eating choc again...and promptly got sick from eating it. I'm really going to have to think about giving it up again...just not sure people will like me for the month it takes to get out of my system!

I remember once a long time ago my mom heard there was going to be a toilet paper shortage. She had every closet full of toilet paper.
