Christmas came early-Featherweight!

DH walked in from work this evening with a black box & said, "Look in there & see what you think".
OMG! It's a beautiful little featherweight! She is lovely & runs beautifully! I am so, so excited & just had to share. I did look on line & she was made in May 1951. Her little emblem states that she is an anniversary edition :)

We have a close friend who goes to a lot of auctions, etc. DH mentioned to him this summer that I wanted a featherweight (only after lots of drumming into his head:). He was amazed that friend knew what it actually was. He got it at auction this weekend. DH said he wanted $225- My reply was "that's great!!" DH asked this morning as he was leaving for work, "So are we keeping it?" Of course- silly man!

ewecansew 12-07-2011 10:50 AM

Congratulations!!! Good work, DH.

quilterella 12-07-2011 12:45 PM

My brother just gave me one on the weekend. Congratulations on yours. I'm so excited that I now belong to the Featherweight Club, but unfortunately, she will have to wait awhile as I'm too busy to do her justice right now.

annthreecats 12-07-2011 01:07 PM

She is a beauty. Enjoy.

pseudoquilter 12-08-2011 06:37 AM

Ok, I am new to the sewing/quilting world and want to know with all the technology out there why are quilters drawn to the antique Featherweight machine?

traumaRN 12-08-2011 06:56 AM

Wow! big score! What a great hubby

AnitaSt 12-08-2011 08:20 AM

You'll love her. My "Mary Ruth" is a 1955 model. You do know you need to name her, right??? Mine is named after both my grandmothers.

For me, it is the portability. I have a Bernina that is too heavy for me to take to classes and retreats (and too expensive to be knocking around even in a case). The FW sews a beautiful straight stitch and is great for piecing. Besides that....it's cute and it makes that old-fashioned sewing machine clickety-clack.

misseva 12-08-2011 09:30 AM

Aren't Featherweights the cutest things? Congrats.

BarbaraSue 12-08-2011 10:04 AM

congratulations on your FW! She is beautiful. Enjoy!

tlclifford47 12-08-2011 10:39 AM

mimiknoxtaylor 12-08-2011 11:18 AM

She's so lightweight even I can lift her=just love her! Haven't thought of a name yet but AnitaSt I like your idea of naming her after your grandmothers.
