I have made these coasters alot. They are so easy and would look like ornaments made from Christmas fabric.

I've made these for several years now - always seem to get a good response, and they're very easy (and relatively inexpensive!). |
I'm afraid I don't have any ideas, but your ornaments are beautiful.
|
I first did this at a December bridal shower. all the attendees got to paint their own ornament and that was their party favor. They were all gorgeous! Everyone enjoyed it (men and women).
The last couple of years i have been buying the bulbs at after Christmas sales and making my own ornaments for the next year. One year I did lime green the next year I did orange and gold. Both trees were beautiful. I got so many complements. (as you can see I am not a traditionalist). LOL. Have fun. |
I spent WAY too much time on this site this morning. I went to so many different blogs. Found an amazing lazy cat ornament that can be enlarged to a pot holder, a basket pattern, and sooooooooo much more. Loved it and thank you. Glenda

Maybe you will find some ideas for next year... http://yarn-or-fabric.weebly.com/chr...ent-links.html There are a few on that list that I want to make this year... |
I found a video and how to do it on about.com Thank you.

I got a Styrofoam tree shape. folded 2 in squares like prairie points, stuck two small pins in to hold them, went all the way around the bottom of the shape. Next row I cover about half of the first row, but off set them, so no Styrofoam showed. Jest keep going till you reach the top, I covered it with one of the squares, then put a bow or a star on it.
very easy, foam comes in all sizes, makes a great centerpiece. Have fun PS can do the same thing with foam egg shapes, start at the pointy part of the egg, end with a loop of ribbon to hang them, looks like pine cones! |
those are absolutly wonderful. Want to adopt me. I need ornaments.

Here are some I made several years back. I used the fur off of my mother-in-laws collar type thing they used to wear years ago. She had just passed, so it was something of her to them also. You could do lots of different things on the mittens, I'm afraid I'm not creative and only did the same two. I made a pair for each of my children.I connected them with a gold ribbon. If I would have more mink I would have made them for all the grandchildren.
|
Beautiful gifts! Thanks to all of you who provided the terrific links.
|
I "thought" I saw on this thread a tute where you make hexagon yo-yos, sewing a button or something in the hole. Now, I can't find it. Anyone know what I'm referring to???
|
I'm thrilled with all the tutes I found on this thread, but I've spent two hours on this site! Yikes.
|
I really like your ideas.

But leaves are falling. Some have a little color on the trees. The sky was a little cloudy this evening. It sure looked like fall weather here. It won't be long. |
I'd love to try the crocheted angel if you'd share the pattern If not....that's ok. All your ornaments are very nice.

Glad to see another grandmother does the ornament gifts each year. I started this with my children (2 boys) from birth on--some bought with their age/interests in mind, others handmade--and I always put the date (year) on them. It was my intention to stop once they got older, but they objected to that idea. They are now 39 and 41, and I'm doing ornaments for sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. The ornaments were gifts from the Christmas fairy (like the tooth fairy) and appeared on their bedside tables on Christmas Eve morning. When the boys and their families are here for Christmas, I still place them there for them. When they aren't, I mail them on that day.
My grandchildren always get to a certain age when they wonder about this and ask why the Christmas fairy comes only to my house. Sometimes they have already checked with friends and learned she doesn't come to their houses or wondered why she doesn't come to their other grandmother's house. The fact that they have mentioned these "Christmas fairy" gifts to their little friends and others is a good indication that they've appreciated them. When each son was getting married, I boxed up their ornaments and gave them to the bride at one of their bridal showers to use on their first Christmas tree after they married. These were a big hit with both brides, and with the guests. Often young mothers in attendance would say they were going to begin that tradition with their own children. |

I love the love you show for your family. I have 6 children & their spouses, & 14 grandchildren..it's a lot of work , but they look forward to it. They always check each others ornament, because like I said I try to put them, as I see them, into each ornament.Sometimes I have a little something written to go along with it, expressing my feelings about them & why they received that ornament. I want to THANK everyone who sent ideas, I think I can now go on with Special Christmas ornaments for quite a few years!! I love the love you show for your family!! That is just why I do it also. I have 28 this year!! to do!! Everyone must see everyone elses..because I try to make them just for them, and everyone wants to see 'why'...theirs is what it is.
One Christmas my daughter in law, was a little upset, why I gave her a donkey, until I explained. "you collect crosses, & the donkey that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, had the shadow of the cross fall onto his back, and is present today on many donkeys" She smiled, when she understood her special ornament. |

I make these for family members.

An idea for others: consider fabric or craft materials with family meaning to make any pattern you choose special: See JCL in FL's mittens on page 4 of this thread for an example. Other ideas for source materials are grandfather's/father's old silk ties, parts of scarves or doilies a relative made (old ones that aren't in good shape but still have good parts), buttons from a grandmother's button box--you get the idea.
