Every year I used to buy an ornament for the Children & Grandchildren. Then I started making them using fabrics that ,I feel, represent them. BUT!! I'm running out of 'new' ornament ideas...need help!! THANKS!! & Merry Christmas!!!

Here are some pics of past ornaments...I love crafting of any kind!! but was thinking, something with fabric. :)

I've made these for several years now - always seem to get a good response, and they're very easy (and relatively inexpensive!).

how about a paper pieced tree or something that you can embroider their name and the year?

Those are wonderful. I saw some really cute ornaments made from yo-yos at a craft fair last summer. Wish I had taken a picture.

Love them. And thanks for the links

Have your done tiny stockings? I like to do small patchwork Christmas stockings with enough room inside to put in a gift card or folded paper money. I do some pieced no name ones for a quick gift for someone I forgot and I embroider the names on the front of the family ones. I hang them on the tree for the Christmas season. They are handy for paperboy, mailman etc.

Sorry don't have any ideas for you but wanted to say I love all of your projects, especially the Dora ornament. My little DGD would love to have one of those on her tree.

Go to Angie's Bits and Pieces site. She has a "Freebies" section with several really cute ornaments to make. I love that site.

Very cool potholders !!

Ellageo 08-02-2011 12:40 PM

These 'potholders' are actually ornaments !! There is no sewing ....alll done with folded fabric & a glue stick!! I thought of them as 'mini' quilt ornaments!!

I thought of mittens before!! & never did them, maybe this year!! Thanks!! My most difficult time is choosing fabrics that to me, represent each of my family...:)

What great ideas! It's hard to believe, but you're right, it's time to get started on Christmas gifts. My LQS has been running an event once a month called, "Twelve Days of Christmas." She is teaching a new project every event. We've learned some new ideas for Christmas gifts.

How about making jo-jo's out of Christmas fabric and a shiny button or Christmas pin in the hole in the middle. Our church made these and gave them out in the neightborhood. They turned out really cute.

TanyaL 08-02-2011 04:38 PM

How about a set with the nativity symbols? OR the emblem for the college their parents are expecting them to attend?

jpmaroni 08-03-2011 02:54 AM

Absolutely amazing ornaments!

Yarn or Fabric 08-03-2011 03:03 AM

I have a ton of links for sewn & quilted ornaments on my personal website. There are some really cool ones on it. I keep adding to the list whenever I see new tutorials...
Maybe you will find some ideas for next year...

Thanks for sharing. Nice collection of ornaments. I like being able to mouse over and see the picture of the ornament.

WMUTeach 08-03-2011 05:12 AM

OOOh too cute. I love them both. I think I hear elf feet carrying baskets of little ribbon pine cones dashing through my house.

Thank you for this link. Am planning on doing the Pinecone Ornament!

dweeks 08-03-2011 05:22 AM

I have some lovely fabric pinecone ornaments that a co-worker made. She used folded pieces of fabric and either pinned or glued the pieces together. She made these back in the 90's and her idea came from a craft magazine.
Another idea is to use liquid starch on a cut piece of fabric that looks like a patchwork angel, tree, Santa, etc. Whatever you choose, you will have fun.

wyoming_quilter 08-03-2011 05:22 AM

I'm so glad you asked this. I do the same thing and had run out of ideas. Now I have a whole new line up for a while. :)

HummerGardenCrafts 08-03-2011 05:40 AM

I love making ornaments!!!! Thanks for all the sites! I carried some big bells to decorate this week. Now to hunt out my ribbons, flowers and all my small goodies I have stashed away.

And make some more of my yo yo ornaments that I made the pattern up myself a while back. I will try to do a tuterial on those as well as other things. I have to figure out how to do them. Never done one before.

Love your ornies.

Deborah12687 08-03-2011 06:01 AM

I have made advent calinders for my Grand kids. I sew a small wall hanging with pockets that I use fabric that has small xmas designs on it and put choclate candies in and make loops on the side to put candy canes in.
