I am new to this forum so maybe this has been discussed before. I am making potholders, potato bags, purses, and mug organizers for Christmas. Anyone have any other ideas!

Jim's Gem 11-18-2010 11:44 AM

Cup cozies, Book marks, coasters or mug rugs,

amma 11-18-2010 11:51 AM

Bag tags are popular in the stores now too. They are over sized luggage tags, used to help locate baggage on the airport carousel, or in other circumstances where all of those black bags look the same LOL
They don't necessarily have the window in them for a name/address label. They are just a distinctly colored tag, hopefully one that no one else has. I put one on either side of the handle of my bags  :D:D:D

A nice set of placemats (maybe with matching napkins) is always nice. Or a table topper. Also, I have given wall hangings for Christmas gifts. Pillows too.

My kids got some cute pillowcases for Christmas one year that my Aunt had painted snowmen on them. They still use those thin see through things!! They loved them. I would think just the pillowcases like you see people making would be cute for kids!

This thread was started in early fall for Christmas Gift Ideas. Lots of good ideas.:)

Is there a pattern for your quilt?? It's fabulous!!!

glassnquilts 11-18-2010 05:14 PM

The round quilt is from Cheryl Phillips Quilts without Corners. It uses a 10 degree ruler.

Great idea for the bag tags, is there a pattern or did you design one yourself

After my son paid 20 some dollars overweight for my beloved old teal colored suitcase set, I gave it to my daughter in Texas for car traveling. Then DSIL gave me a set of very light, black ones, which I almost lost on the baggage ramp in my home air port. Everybody in America seems to use black luggage.
So like you, I've made some long, oval brilliant ones (to match my clothes, vanity I'll admit, but pretty) and also make them with straps just long enough so that I can pull them through each other to lock them on the baggage.

So far I've made a quilt, sweatshirt jacket and quilted calendar holder with calendar. Now I need to make Pj's and embroider some towels.

Becky Crafts 11-19-2010 02:03 AM

I've made several lap robes, a Christmas tree skirt, a tote bag, homemade teddy bear, doll, pillows and a few kits to encourage our (new to sewing) DGD with small things like hair scrunchies and clothes for the doll complete with bits of fabrics and embellishments.

When all of you who are making mug rugs for gifts and also giving a mug, do you buy a mug first or make them and then purchase a mug?

sewTinker 11-19-2010 04:29 AM

I'm making super easy & cute hanging dishtowels (I posted a link for them in the link section), bib-like aprons, kleenex box covers, and some sewing kits. and a couple of quilts.

JNCT14 11-19-2010 04:33 AM

A couple of days ago I posted picture of a Christmas card holder. This was fun because I could experiment with some of the different block patterns without committing to a whole quilt, and i got to cut fun shapes out of felt (who doesn't love that....)the holder is set up so the block is at the top, then below it has 4 pockets, embellished with said felt shapes, which can be used to hold Christmas cards or if you like, ribbons, tape, etc or if you really want to have fun, stuff the pockets with cookies or small candies. Super easy!

I think covered notebooks and composition books are great. Everybody always needs something to write in/on.

basktcse 11-19-2010 05:59 AM

I really love your picture of the quilt. Tell me about that spiral with all the bright colors.

steelecg 11-19-2010 07:29 AM

great ideas - I am just trying to clean up my sewing area to be able to get to the machine

Brenda 11-19-2010 08:50 AM

Check out books by Nancy Halverson. They are great.
they feature many small items.......ornaments-tea towels
cup cosies-tote bags and much more. I make a lot of
these things for gifts and church auctions. They are
always well recieved.

I just finished 6 foam trees that are covered with Xmas yo-yos. Pinned on with either pearl tipped, or smaller colored pins with a fancy sequin in the middles. What ever you want to put on top.

mshawii 11-19-2010 09:20 AM

Purse organizers are popular around here right now. Jan

catrancher 11-19-2010 09:42 AM

Pocket hand warmers--little pouches with rice that you warm in the microwave and then put in your pockets to keep your hands warm. Also, I found a neck scarf with pockets made with fleece. I'm going to make a couple of those, and I'm making an iPhone pouch for my DIL.

CarrieAnne 11-19-2010 09:52 AM

Ive made some scarves and slippers, sofar, and started a few pillowcases.

winter012 11-19-2010 10:25 AM

Quilted laptop covers, paperback book covers, grocery totes, casserole covers/cosys....the list goes on

OmaForFour 11-19-2010 11:41 AM

I am trying to watch my spending so I am making sets of table runners (seasonal) for all my Grandaughters & Grandaughters in law. Best part. if I don't get ALL the seasons , they still get a nice gift with however many are done. I think I may do some kids prints for the younger mothers with babies and toddlers. And almost all of it from my Stash. I also have to make a couple of flannel Granny gowns (this is a yearly request for the last 20 years.)
