Christmas Red.....

I have a small table topper kit that I bought at the end of the season. The colors in it are black, Christmas Red, Christmas green, 2 creams and one gold.

Can I wait and wash this with color catchers after I'm finished or is that too risky?

If I wash them before I make the topper should I wash each fabric with color catchers?

TIA

I never wash my fabrics before I use them. Just my preference. Lots of people here on the board have used the color catchers with great success. Im sure you'll get more replies. Good Luck, sounds pretty.

I never pre wash either, but there are lots who do. Would love to see your table topper.

I haven't prewashed my fabric either. I'm just wondering with the red if I should prewash.

The topper should come out to 26x26. So it's not that much fabric, but I don't want to ruin it because of the red running.

Thanks ladies

Sometimes I prewash, sometimes I don't. I never do when it's a kit, tho, because I'm afraid the fabrics will shrink & I won't have enough since kits usually are pretty stingy with their fabric. Just my opinion...

I always pre-wash fabrics. I have only made a quilt and another from the scraps, they were from a kit. I didn't pre-wash it, there was a very generous amount of fabrics. I for sure would at the least was gently in warm water to see if the red will bleed.

I wash with color catchers if I think it will fade.

Crud....you're right. I shouldn't prewash due to it being a kit and an old one at that. I wouldn't be able to remotely replace the fabric until maybe the summer.

Thanks ladies...I'll probably start with it tomorrow night.

I made a table topper with Xmas colors and the red ran. You can place the pieces in separate water w/o soap in the sink for each color and see if it runs. Better safe than sorry. Use retaine if it runs.

What company makes retaine? where do you buy it?
