I buy, just in case, you never know when you will need it, and then i will always have it, and not have to run out for it. All my calicos are from many years ago and the most i paid was probaly 1.00 a yard. but its there when i need it. Sales are sooo much fun.

We bad, we know it. We love it.

""I suppose that these fabrics just wanted to go for a ride?"... ""
too funny. In 2008 my sewing rooms in our basement flooded. A blessing in disguise. I don't know about that but we did clean everything out. Sorted washed and dried 52 loads of fabric(big washer loads) It allowed me to see everything I have.Fabric packed in totes and organized by color. trims, laces etc all organized. It was a huge job.One I do not want to repeat. But now I go shopping in my basement an find what I am looking for. I am happy to have the stash with the predicted price increases. judy j |

I put up peg board last week and hung up all my rulers and doo dads. What a difference a 2 ft by 4 ft piece of wood can make! My fabric isn't if too bad shape, so I am feeling very proud of myself

I wish I could clean my sewing room in an afternoon. I not only have fabric, crafts items, but to many sewing machines. I have enough fabric to last me a 150+ years, so unless I really needed it now, I don't buy anything. I cut 4 quilts out with the accuquilt go, so now I only have to start sewing and quilting. I just need more time to do it all.
|
Hi Debra: When you decide to get rid of more fabric, please remember our small quilting group of elderly ladies. We make quilts for people who lose their homes and possessions to fires and believe me it keeps us hopping just to try to keep up. We don't even have any funds to pay postage I am sorry to say. Most of our members are on a fixed income and just making blocks is about all they can manage. One of the members in the past has machine quilted them for us or we would have been in deep dodoo when it comes to quilting as most of our members piece, but don't hand quilt anymore.
Thanks for thinking of us when the time comes. Lee Ripp Nimble Thimble Quilt Group |
If my sewing room were organized for more than a day, it would mean I am sick. That poor room is always in chaos, and I guess I like it like that, or I would do something about it.
|
I'm taking a couch out of my sewing room to make room for organizers and a couple of tall book shelves, which will go against opposite walls, facing each other. Organizers will be placed in between.
Any ideas where I can obtain large fabric organizers at a descent price? |
Debra Mc, you sound like me. I want to throw things away but find myself saving it. I even starting saving the label on the side of the fabric for a while...i had to make myself stop. some of my really small scraps are in jars because someone told me that they make nice stuffing for pillows. I am just about there to try this technique. Oh well, we have to detox some kind of way. Good luck on cleaning that room, I am also like Denise, you need creativity and a neat room would need some love and that is fabric all over the place.

I'm with you! Can pass up the bolts, but scraps bring out the Scrap-a-holic in me.

My DH always wants to know when "I'm opening my fabric store or my bookstore!!" But then again he does have a lot of tools and "stuff" he's saving because he may need it!!LOL

Lov a good, quick mind in a man!!!!!!!!!!. My Hubby just makes ugly faces at me, and ask if it is for dinner! We had a rule in the earlier part of our 45 yr marriage,,,,,,,,,if we can't eat it or can't wear it, we don't need it. Of course he forgot some of those rules,,,,,,,

I thought it was just me. I have been on a clean it out mission for two weeks. It could be this nice cool weather Texas is having. The heat seems to do me in. I, also, have been watching some Clean House for the last few months. It makes me want to throw something away during the commercials.
I bought a five basket system from the container store to organize tools and such. I am tired of looking for things. I, also, ordered 18 open stacking bins for fabric. I am tired of moving plastic container and killing my back. I, already, have a peg board that holds my rulers, scissors and rotary cutters. I love it. While I was waiting for the bins to come in, I worked on my clothes closet. I don't get this urge very often, so I am trying to take advantage of it. I have five boxes and a large bag of clothes for my son to haul to the Purple Heart truck and I haven't even started on my sewing room yet. This is our story: I am not a Fabriholic, I just need one more yard, Really, Just one more!!! I wasn't going to buy any more fabric for a few months. Satan's Secretary (AKA: My Best Friend) told me that one of our LQS is closing and the big sale starts tomorrow. She, also, wants to go on a day trip to three other shops that are having sales next week. How can I say no to my BF.  8-) |
I absolutely LOVE the quilt you have displayed here. Will you share the pattern for it?

If I clean as I go and put things away as I use them then the clutter doesn't acumulate. After finishing each project I clean/oil my machine and vacuum the carpets. I fill out information in my journal. If its a charity quilt and I have quilted it I take a picture for my journal. If I will be taking it to my longarm quilter I wili hang the quilt/backing up in the closet. So when I start a new quilt my sewing room is clean and I'm ready to sew. |

My sewing room needs a good cleaning. I have already come across stuff I won't use. Sometimes I just wonder, what was I thinking.
I know the yarn will go for sure. |

I never never saw our Walmart put Fabric on sale. They don't have the dept. anymore but when they did, no sales. You are lucky
|
I got the whole garage ready for a garage sale a few years ago. i had all these table in there and it took a long time cleaning things from the house and shed and boxes. it was nice weather and then when I was all ready with the boxes made for advertiseing, it turned bad weather and started to rain and snow. So for the next few weeks I shopped at my own sale and kept bringing things back in the house. Crazy!!!! There is not much shopping in this small town so I shopped at my own garage sale. Please don't tell anybody.

Hi Debra, I'm Alex J, and I'm a Fabricaholic too..
|
We bought a new house a few months ago and I am still trying to get organized. We have a trip planned for Pheonix in May and the saving has already begun ... my Lady for clothing and mine for the fabric shops. Luckily - she likes to help me and is an enabler in the fabric store. What a gal !!!
|
Tooooo funny!
|
Dear Debra,
Me too! |
There is no such thing as too much "stuff" ... only not enough space.

I'm with you Debra. My name is Patti and I'm a fabraholic. At least that's better than some other "holics" I could mention. LOL |
Mine says I am like that commercial for IKEA where the lady drives up in a tractor trailer yelling they're having a sale, I'm going back for more!!!! [/quote]
That's funny. Here the IKEA commercial is a lady with 2 large, full bags, running out of the store yelling to her husband who's waiting in the car--- "Start the car! Start the car!" So I use that for my son when he's being slow, "Start the car, start the car" It usually gets him laughing and things move a little faster. |
