This may take FOREVER!! I started a week ago. I found lots of magazines and piled them up to take to the guild meeting and give away. Next day I thought I better go through them first. So that took a day and a half.

OK - back to work. Found a big bunch of charm squares. (I have NO MEMORY of buying them.) Stopped cleaning and started sewing Disappearing 9 Patches. Wow, what fun! So, today after church, I will sew some more. Then I should put them together in a small baby quilt to take to guild tomorrow night for Show & Tell.

At this rate I probably will take a year to finish the organization!

My daughter, who is not a quilter, or in the least crafty, said "Aren't you finished yet"?

emerald46 06-12-2011 04:06 AM

Non-quilters just don't understand. Sounds like you got a lot done to me!

Julie in NM 06-12-2011 04:22 AM

Kat, are you sure you aren't my long lost twin? Quilter twin? Separated at the LQS?

arkansasquilter123 06-12-2011 04:27 AM

Can we see a picture of the D9P when you're finished?

romanojg 06-12-2011 04:38 AM

I have a friend who refuses to show her quilting room to anyone who isn't a quilter. They just can't understand. When her sister came to visit she showed her the house for the first time but wouldn't let her into the quilting room. Obviously she isn't a quilter.

shawnemily 06-12-2011 04:56 AM

Oh my goodness that sounds just like me! LOL
I thought it was something wrong with me! Everytime I start organizing my craft room I do the same thing! :):):)

erstan947 06-12-2011 05:04 AM

When my son was little I would tell him to not come out of his room until it was clean. I didn't see him for most of the day. He found long lost toys and had a great time. I now know where he gets it from:)

running1 06-12-2011 05:06 AM

It sounds to me like you are right on track!!! ha ha
Have fun with the "clean out"!!!

blueangel 06-12-2011 06:07 AM

That is my next project.

That literally had me laughing outloud! LOL!!! I could just see a quilting Momma getting so wrapped up in all the fabric that she left one twin behind!! LOL!! My mind does strange things before my coffee kicks in. :XD:

Doreen 06-12-2011 06:27 AM

I'm the same way. I start looking for something/cleaning and all of a sudden I'm cutting for pillow cases. I make a bigger mess than what I started.

LOL too funny! Thanks for the morning laugh!

NancyG 06-12-2011 07:49 AM

Oh, it is so easy to get side tracked. I feel your pain. The same thing happens with me. I'll be putting fabric away and see a pattern and then start cutting and then sewing and then the day is gone and I still haven't put the fabric away! Funny how we are.

amma 06-12-2011 10:57 AM

I get side tracked easily too... and not just by shiny objects, cotton too. :D:D:D

emsgranny 06-12-2011 11:58 AM

What a great way to get projects done though lol

Ditto for me - once it is cleaned, I'd be happy for anyone to see it, until the next day when its trashed again. :)

blahel 06-12-2011 06:23 PM

so funny! at least you enjoyed the 'cleaning'

OneMoreQuilt 06-12-2011 06:43 PM

Sounds like great progress.....on the quilt!!! You clean how I clean.

oksewglad 06-12-2011 06:47 PM

I swear I have ADD--so understand!:-)

tutty 06-12-2011 06:48 PM

I can never find things when I organize up !! Ugh !! so......will label next time !!!! LOL but it is fun shopping in your own space !! Oh ! Look what I found !! LOL enjoy !

Me too, easily distracted!... also in the middle of cleaning the sewing room.

Liz aka Helen 06-12-2011 07:02 PM

Right now 75 percent of all of my stuff is in Nebraska the other 25 % here in New mexico, Once I get moved fully up to Nebraska it should be interesting to see what I come up with. I had wanted to move into the basement with all of my sewing but we just had a major flood in there, sewer line backed up, stinky from what my husband tells me. So thats out. So who knows how long it will take me to get organized and sorted out.

quiltyfeelings 06-12-2011 08:32 PM

We shouldn't clean our quilting rooms....my mom always says, "a messy room is the sign of a creative mind."

Words to live by.

crazyforquilting 06-12-2011 08:36 PM

I just cleaned mine up and can't find anything now.

This friend sounds like me. My step-daughter (who doesn't like ANYTHING out for home decor--she is a minimalist) feels the need to open the door to my studio and look in EVERY time she comes over! I just laugh and tell her when I die, there is a lot of money to be made off that room! ROFL

romanojg 06-13-2011 03:57 AM

I tell my daughter the same thing when she asked why I bought another old machine. I tell her that I'm getting one for each of my grandkids and great granddaughter and then any that I may have left over she can sell or whatever; but right now they are making me happy and that is all that is needed. I only have tow and will look at a third this weekend; compared to some people on this list that's nothing; but i'm getting there. My kids are grown and still think they should be my priority. I tell them they are still really high on the list but now I'm first and thier kids are right there with me and they come after.

charlotte625 06-13-2011 04:03 AM

if this makes you feel any better ..or maybe worst....I started on mine 6--7 monts ago.................and still not done. And my daughter has asked me ....100 times what is taking you so long????
Maybe I should post pictures of my guest bedroom which is covered in doll cloths.
I have found fabric I got for outfits for my grand daughters when they were small( now 11)..oh well sewing is way more fun then cleaning....Right?

romanojg 06-13-2011 04:10 AM

I like the comment some one posted her a while back. A friend asked her is she quilted in her spare time; she said no, I clean my house in my spare time. I'd much rather be creative than clean.

mshollysd 06-13-2011 04:12 AM

I have been working on renassaince costumes for the past week and had to clean up my mess from that so I can get back to quilting.

jals loves to quilt 06-13-2011 04:14 AM

I can relate!

lillybeck 06-13-2011 04:59 AM

This sounnds like me. I have started cleaning 3 times now to organize what I need to get done by Christmas. Well,l still am not sure what I am doing. I found some scraps so I just wanted to see how that would work in making my own blocks, then I had to cut a p patch just to see how it would look in a DpP and then I had to finish mending a blouse and then I gave up. I do not think we will ever be done organizing or cleaning

DebbE 06-13-2011 05:05 AM

I cleaned my quilt room a couple of weeks ago - found my DH's long lost wedding ring, which I'd put away in a 'safe' place during our last move & forgot where I'd put it! We moved over 5 1/2 years ago! This cleaning expedition paid off...he was looking to replace it till he saw how much gold rings are now! I also found an album of CD's I'd been looking for, for years, too! Moral of the story: CLEAN the quilt room at least once a year!

wvdek 06-13-2011 05:29 AM

ROFLOL! This is exactly what has happened to me recently.
I started cleaning my sunroom "junkroom' two weeks ago. Oh my, the things I have found. However, I have taken four boxes of books (went to the library book sale), three boxes of old mags (went to the veteran's hospital), and three trash bags out of that room, not to mention about six bags for the mission trip yard sale at church. Lo and behold if I didn't find my birth and wedding certificate's that have been MIA for about 4 years. Now to start on the craft, yarn, sewing stuff. It feels great to finally free myself of all this stuff I don't need, can't use, don't want. I'm trying to stick to the adage, "if I have not used it in the last two years, out it goes."
May take me all summer, because after all, I have to go through everything, don't I? LOL

Val in IN 06-13-2011 05:52 AM

Oh good, I'm not alone :-)! I've been working on mine for 2 weeks, the more I work, the worse it gets. I'm not getting side tracked by sewing, I can't get to my sewing machines because I've "organized" the stuff in front and around them. My cutting table is piled with stuff and I have had to annex half of the office. At this rate I might get done by Christmas...or NOT!!

Glenda m 06-13-2011 06:07 AM

Oh, so true. I am in the process of re-folding all my stash. Came across a piece of fabric that was almost burlap in texture. What in the world did I plan on using this for? Then thought..I have enough small scraps gathered, so I will make the doggies a new bed out of it. Now doggies have a new bed and the stash still needs to be re-folded. Oh look!! A piece of dark green velvet..now what can I do with this? LOL

Grandma Peg 06-13-2011 06:22 AM

It's almost like Christmas for you, finding all kinds of nice things you didn't realize you had. Have fun.

Teach 06-13-2011 07:27 AM

This QB is wonderful... I find out so many things and learn I'm no different than anyone else. I'm sitting here smiling over the comments that mirror my own actions and thinking when I clean my quilting room. Thank You to everyone on the board!

Rose_P 06-13-2011 08:05 AM

This whole thread is a classic. I plan to bookmark and read it over and over whenever I need to stop and laugh at myself. Thanks for posting, and thanks to all my sisters-in-quilt who typed the "just like me" responses. Ditto, ditto and ditto!

I needed to have some repair work done on heating ducts. on the way down the hall I asked him if his wife quilted. he said yes. I then said "then I don't have to explain this next room" He just laughed.... :D :D
