So many suggestions for the book I am making. Thank you everyone. Now I have another question. The directions call for one layer of batting between two pages. The layers are attached only around the edges. Sort of like a quilt sandwich with no quilting. How do you all hold the layers together, especially when washing. Sorry for all rhe questions but this is for a very special little girl, my GGD.

I like to use inexpensive felt inside cloth books because it holds shape, and supports the pages nicely.

Can you wash it using felt?

I have always washed the cloth books. Felt does not get weird inside them because nothing is rubbing against it while washing. Just make sure it is cheap polyester felt, not quality wool felt. Wool felt will shrink and mess up your book.

I still add some quilting with swirls, zig zags, circles, or whatever just to be sure it washes well.
