Our HOA prohibits clotheslines also, but as you said on of the retractable behind a privacy fence would not be visable. I have been waiting for someone to help me get the umbrella one I purchased set in the ground. When the tem is 100 +, I just can't ask anyone to dig a hole in the ground. I am enjoying all of the patterns that have been posted and was just wondering if it might be possible to purchase a small child's dress from someplace like Goodwill, place it on a hanger, sew up the bottom edge (hem area) and have a bag???????

try www.clotilde.com, they sell one

Lovely ideas! thank you! I do have my clothesline (I live in the countryside,no neighbors!) and I love the sun on my clothes! I'll make a little clothspin bag!
Thank you Patricia |

Oh I love to hang my sheets on the line... Got to make a bag as the cheesy dollar store one I have falls off the line. But someone tell me, where can I buy the good old fashion clothespins???? I had to get a smaller, flimsy version...They do not hold heavy things well at all.... Oh what I would give for a decent clothespin!

i still hang out clothes. sorry this is not a sewing answer, but this is what i use. i like to reduce, reuse, recycle, a plastic javex jug (etc). just cut a piece out of the handle down low so it will slip over the clothesline. on opposite side cut out half moon shape from the ridge up. punch a few holes in the bottom in case it rains, so it will drain. i take mine in.
i use the slide on clothes pins and they will stand up on the side, also your line dividers will fit on there too. if this is not appropriate, please remove. thanks |
Yes, still use the line occasionally.
Not very often, I have allergies and the pollen clings to the clothes. J J |
So cute. My moms birthday is this week. I think I will make her one. Thanks for the link.

PS Love Colorado, must get back there again soon. |
I bought some tiny denim bib shorts, at thrift store, sewed the bottom shut= pin bag.
Where we lived in the city you could not have clotheslines. Now we can, to help cut down on elec. use. |
I hang clothes out all the time and just have an old plain bag I bought. Now I can have a cute fancy clothes pin bag. Thanks
|
I had bought a simple one many years ago and when the fabric rotted, I just used it to make a pattern from it. The dress ones are so cute I just may do that when I need a new one. I can't hang clothes out that much, especially with the wet spring/summer we are having here in W WA.

And you're right, the newer ones are cheesy! These old ones last forever, if they get discolored, I soak them in bleach solution and dry out in the sun on a table. |

Love hanging out laundry for the bright fresh feel of the clothes. Sorry to say, (shamefully) that I keep the pins in a bucket. One thought for those looking for a shortcut is to find and old dress and sew the bottom closed for a nifty bag.
|
I do and love it. A couple of years ago, I just purchased an infant/toddler outfit at a garage sale for .25 cents. Sewed the legs closed and put it on a hanger and that is my cheap clothes pin bag. It works great. Just make sure the neck opening is large enough for your hand full of pins.
|
Love hanging cloths out. Thanks for the neat idea for the clothes pin bag.

Meanwhile, make a run to the nearest dollar store. They have them, and they will work 'til you make a really cute one@
! |
Pin bag is too cute for words - Love it. Cindy
|
Love to hung thing out side, nothing like getting in to bed at night with sheets just off the line. I seen a clothespins made with little boys overalls. That is on list of thing to do, maybe I will make one for each of the girls for christmas.
|
I was just wondering what a 'clothespin' bag was - just another example of the differences between 'English English' and 'American English' - we call them 'clothespegs' here in England.
|
Love these ideas!

I would love to hang out my clothes, at least my sheets and towels, but don't have a clothes line.
|
Still use mine, but for a different reason. Have clothespins in it, but use to attach them to some of my clothing on hangers so they so not fall of.

I dry all my washing outdoors and desperately need a new pegbag as well. Mine is just about to kick the bucket.
|
I made one for my MIL several years ago, but not for me, I think I will do just that since I still hang out some of the laundry, thanks for the reminder :-D
|
And if you don't want to make one, you can go to:
http://www.vermontcountrystore.com or http://www.goodolddaysstore.com Just type clothespin bag in the search line. |
You can google free clothespin bags patterns. I found a lot of free patterns.

Still hang out clothes. My mom used to have a clothes pin bag made out of a childs dress sewn across the bottom and hung up with child's hanger. So cute.
|
I hang my clothes out year round. I am constantly having to replace the cheap purchased bags. I've wanted to make a bag for quite some time. I think I'm finally inspired!! Thank you.

When weather permits, my clothes are hung on the line.
