Thank you. Great site and you made a darling one. I love sun dried laundry but my pins definitely need a home

Our HOA prohibits clotheslines also, but as you said on of the retractable behind a privacy fence would not be visable. I have been waiting for someone to help me get the umbrella one I purchased set in the ground. When the tem is 100 +, I just can't ask anyone to dig a hole in the ground. I am enjoying all of the patterns that have been posted and was just wondering if it might be possible to purchase a small child's dress from someplace like Goodwill, place it on a hanger, sew up the bottom edge (hem area) and have a bag???????

Dolphyngyrl 07-24-2011 06:47 AM

try www.clotilde.com, they sell one

Patricia14 07-24-2011 06:47 AM

Lovely ideas! thank you! I do have my clothesline (I live in the countryside,no neighbors!) and I love the sun on my clothes! I'll make a little clothspin bag!
Thank you

Patricia

Oh I love to hang my sheets on the line... Got to make a bag as the cheesy dollar store one I have falls off the line. But someone tell me, where can I buy the good old fashion clothespins???? I had to get a smaller, flimsy version...They do not hold heavy things well at all.... Oh what I would give for a decent clothespin!

siss 07-24-2011 06:57 AM

i still hang out clothes. sorry this is not a sewing answer, but this is what i use. i like to reduce, reuse, recycle, a plastic javex jug (etc). just cut a piece out of the handle down low so it will slip over the clothesline. on opposite side cut out half moon shape from the ridge up. punch a few holes in the bottom in case it rains, so it will drain. i take mine in.
i use the slide on clothes pins and they will stand up on the side, also your line dividers will fit on there too.
if this is not appropriate, please remove. thanks

jbj137 07-24-2011 06:58 AM

Yes, still use the line occasionally.
Not very often, I have allergies and
the pollen clings to the clothes.

For those who think they don't have enough room to dedicate a space full time for a clothesline - I hang my line between two trees, and then it comes down in the winter.

LOL Misty Marie! You must be considerably younger than some of us! This was a regular chore when I was growing up. No dryers back then, in the winter we hung on lines in the basement. Welcome to "our world". Penny in K'zoo MI
PS Love Colorado, must get back there again soon.

I bought some tiny denim bib shorts, at thrift store, sewed the bottom shut= pin bag.
Where we lived in the city you could not have clotheslines. Now we can, to help cut down on elec. use.

Lucy90 07-24-2011 08:12 AM

I hang clothes out all the time and just have an old plain bag I bought. Now I can have a cute fancy clothes pin bag. Thanks

Linda - K. 07-24-2011 08:28 AM

I had bought a simple one many years ago and when the fabric rotted, I just used it to make a pattern from it. The dress ones are so cute I just may do that when I need a new one. I can't hang clothes out that much, especially with the wet spring/summer we are having here in W WA.

Google wooden clothespins and you come up with several sources. Or do as I do, and haunt estate sales and resale shops! Have a nice collection from estate sales.
And you're right, the newer ones are cheesy! These old ones last forever, if they get discolored, I soak them in bleach solution and dry out in the sun on a table.

Great idea! You think like I do! I love re-purposing!

Love hanging out laundry for the bright fresh feel of the clothes. Sorry to say, (shamefully) that I keep the pins in a bucket. One thought for those looking for a shortcut is to find and old dress and sew the bottom closed for a nifty bag.

pugmom 07-24-2011 09:48 AM

I do and love it. A couple of years ago, I just purchased an infant/toddler outfit at a garage sale for .25 cents. Sewed the legs closed and put it on a hanger and that is my cheap clothes pin bag. It works great. Just make sure the neck opening is large enough for your hand full of pins.

scrappy happy 07-24-2011 09:53 AM

Love hanging cloths out. Thanks for the neat idea for the clothes pin bag.

Love to hung thing out side, nothing like getting in to bed at night with sheets just off the line. I seen a clothespins made with little boys overalls. That is on list of thing to do, maybe I will make one for each of the girls for christmas.

Sanpot 07-24-2011 01:40 PM

I was just wondering what a 'clothespin' bag was - just another example of the differences between 'English English' and 'American English' - we call them 'clothespegs' here in England.

JanieH 07-24-2011 02:16 PM

Love these ideas!

I still use a clothes line. My clothespin bag is just a simple bag on a wire frame. The original got torn, so I copied it and then sewed it to the frame.

I would love to hang out my clothes, at least my sheets and towels, but don't have a clothes line.

auntiehenno 07-24-2011 04:24 PM

Still use mine, but for a different reason. Have clothespins in it, but use to attach them to some of my clothing on hangers so they so not fall of.

Thanks BrendaK I do love re-purposing when I can, and I have seen a bunch of really cute little girls dresses out there, that would work perfect. :D

I have that pattern at the moment I kind find it but I believe I got it from CLOTILDA.COM. If so not sure the it is still available, If not pm me and I will find it.

yellowsnow55 07-24-2011 06:02 PM

I dry all my washing outdoors and desperately need a new pegbag as well. Mine is just about to kick the bucket.

danece 07-24-2011 06:14 PM

I made one for my MIL several years ago, but not for me, I think I will do just that since I still hang out some of the laundry, thanks for the reminder :-D

Bon14783 07-24-2011 07:27 PM

And if you don't want to make one, you can go to:

http://www.vermontcountrystore.com or

http://www.goodolddaysstore.com

Just type clothespin bag in the search line.

Sewfine 07-24-2011 07:41 PM

You can google free clothespin bags patterns. I found a lot of free patterns.

Yes, this is the site I got the bluejean clothes pin bag. Use one of the granddaughter old jean dress about two years ago.

sew1 07-24-2011 08:47 PM

Still hang out clothes. My mom used to have a clothes pin bag made out of a childs dress sewn across the bottom and hung up with child's hanger. So cute.

katydidit 07-25-2011 06:18 AM

I hang my clothes out year round. I am constantly having to replace the cheap purchased bags. I've wanted to make a bag for quite some time. I think I'm finally inspired!! Thank you.
