I too am a member of this club. However the needle went through the nail and bone. I was only 8 when this happened so it didn't seem to hurt much. Had to go to doctor to have removed because the needle was bent and had to be cut and then pulled out. That is what really hurt. Jeanniebelle

sweetpea 09-21-2011 05:41 AM

so sorry you had to be come one of use. take care of your self.

Tinabodina 09-21-2011 05:42 AM

Welcome - terrible way to be accepted. Hope you are ok and great to hear no blood on the quilt.

alwayslearning 09-21-2011 05:43 AM

Can we close membership in this club? Haven't enough of us shown it is not fun or comforting? It doesn't grow our stash. It doesn't add to creativity?
Heel quickly!

Iraxy 09-21-2011 05:44 AM

Not a member of this club yet but have had some near misses. Hope you heal real fast.

grannypat7925 09-21-2011 05:48 AM

Ouch! So far I have avoided this but did sit on a crochet needle once. Luckily it was one with a very small hook!

Murphy1 09-21-2011 05:55 AM

Just reading about it and the comments makes me remind myself to be extra careful. I can't imagine the pain and getting it out. I promise to keep alert. Thanks for the warning.

joycecil 09-21-2011 06:03 AM

I niped mine a few months ago and that was a surprise. I now make sure that when doing things on the machine, to take my foot off the foot feed untill ready to sew.
Praying for a fast healing.

Delta 09-21-2011 06:10 AM

Welcome to the club glad to have you. I did mine in 1972 and never did it again. lol

Caswews 09-21-2011 06:32 AM

LOL well all I can say is welcome to the club and keep on sewing !!

Ikesgram 09-21-2011 07:39 AM

This club is large and sympathy comes from all. Some people worry about Acupuncture but after sewing your finger and recovering mentally and physically, acupuncture is very gentle. I testify from experience!!

I'm very new in quilting but I have already made this club ...thanks to my Babylock 10 thread.....first time (08-18-11) was the early evening of my birthday!!! Was only going to move the corner of material....and wham went through my ring finger and the eye broke off....no matter how hard I tried with assistance we couldn't find that almost 1/2" needle...so off to the ER...doctor worked hard on it; would take a break and come back....was there from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m...........2nd time was the following Wednesday....this time almost finished with stitching and went to move a piece of thread....same thing only left hand and index finger....embarrased but no option but to return to ER....unfortunately, after 2 doctors the orthopedic surgeon had to remove this one...BE CAREFUL ladies.....quit when you're tired....It's expensive and NOT FUN!!!!!!!!! to be a part of this club!! Take it from a beginner who learned the hard way to keep those fingers back or turn the machine OFF!!!

gramquilter2 09-21-2011 08:31 AM

Welcome to the club, I joined 2 months ago so I guess that makes me one of the welcoming committee!

grammysharon 09-21-2011 08:35 AM

Welcome to the club. Mine didn't hurt until the next day!!! :P

I joined the rotary accident club before I started quilting. I was investigating my rotary cutter and used my finger and thumb to help the blade guard down. So I will never help it that way ever again.

SugarCookie 09-21-2011 09:01 AM

I was initiated at a very young age when my oma forbid me to use her treadle to make doll clothes. OOH, I can still feel the pain! Hugs and a big smooch on the booboo

Get well soon - Can't belong to this club yet.

roadrunr 09-21-2011 10:22 AM

I joined it when I got my new machine. It wasn't painful at all and just a little blood, could hardly see it.
Sorry this happened to you.

BarbaraSue 09-21-2011 10:27 AM

oh ouch! sorry for you :(

Rumbols 09-21-2011 10:40 AM

Ouch. I joined the needle club back in '69 when my mom let me use her 1940's Singer for a school project. I sewed my whole finger to the project and didn't realize it until I pulled the project out from under the needle and couldn't get it off my hand. I had sewn down the side of my finger just inside the skin (no blood thankfully). Then in 2000, my DD introduced me to the rotary cutter; joined that accident club within 10 minutes of holding the thing. I shaved the side of my hand from thumb to fingernail in 3 seconds. DD said not to do that again. Took me 3 months before I picked the rotary cutter up again to use. Now it is my faithful companion. I just have to live and learn mostly the hard way.
Hope you feel better.

MargeD 09-21-2011 10:55 AM

Been there, done that, hope it didn't hurt for too long. I once tried putting the sewing machine needle into my thumb, not quite sure how that happened, but it wasn't pretty.

Stitchit123 09-21-2011 11:09 AM

I think there should be a shot to prevent this rapidly growing virus of NAFS-( Anti Needle in Finger Syndrome) :-D

scrappylouisa 09-21-2011 11:34 AM

Welcome to the Group. I joined when I was 11 years old.....sewed through my finger with my Grandma's treadle machine.

vlm219 09-21-2011 11:56 AM

Ouch!! That makes my finger hurt!! I don't intend to join your club anytime soon! Sorry for the pain.

Nanaquilts44 09-21-2011 12:13 PM

Oh I don't want to join the club but understand how it could happen easily - especially if I am tired.

BettyGee 09-21-2011 12:17 PM

Oh ouch! Sorry to hear about that, may it heal quickly.

luvspaper 09-21-2011 12:18 PM

I joined this weekend too...so sorry....OUCH! I can't believe I did it either!

collady 09-21-2011 12:39 PM

I did that as a child, so maybe I won't do it again. No need to be re-initiated after all these years.

Yah, well I'm issuing an invitation to the "Done It More Than Once Club". I must be one of the founding members. It all depends on how much of a multi-tasker you are.

anniesews 09-21-2011 02:26 PM

Yes mam, welcome to the club. Surprising how that happens so fast you don't realize what you have done.

wildyard 09-21-2011 03:05 PM

Welcome to othe club!! Mine is all healed to look at it, but remains very tender to the touch. It's shocking how fast it happens, isn't it?
Heal well and soon!

momto5 09-21-2011 03:06 PM

Having done that myself (with my long arm, no less!) I can truly sympathize and wish you well and a speedy recovery!

Ouch!!Sorry for your pain. Haven't joined this club. Have come close a couple of times. Hope your finger heals fast.

pattypurple 09-21-2011 03:40 PM

Thanks everyone. Sounds like we could do a bulk order of Klutz Gloves that Fons and Porter sell. Sorry this seems to be such a big club.
Finger is better today, just a little bruised feeling.
I now use my hemostat to grab the bobbin thread.

Janice Thompson 09-21-2011 04:59 PM

Ouch...I'm sure you were surprised as it happened so fast. Heal quick...

Sherryquilts 09-21-2011 05:13 PM

I joined this month as well, about 10 days ago. I am all healed up. It hurt but actually hurt less than I had always imagined..... in any case, I hope to only join once!

Nettie Phillips 09-21-2011 05:22 PM

Haven't joined that club yet but I always have the fear that I will. It
makes my arms feel weak just thinking about it.

PMY in QCA-IL 09-21-2011 05:58 PM

Got to join this club last month. Right through my index finger next to tne fingernail. Unfortunately I was sewing with a group of new quilting friends and now I'm known as "that lady who sewed through her finger" - even by one of the husbands!!

johanka 09-21-2011 07:16 PM

Been there done it. Yes it goes so fast you dont feel it.

Momsmurf 09-21-2011 08:18 PM

Ouch, sorry to hear that....

But isn't it amazing that the finger actually manages to get under that needle (at least the side of the finger!) Yet, try to put a quilt sandwich under there!
