Color combo's you are tired of seeing?
I'm a bit bored with the Aqua/ Orange/ Pink/combination.
I noticed the 3 quilts that happened to be sitting in my living yesterday were all various shades of purple and green, but somehow I'm still not sick of that combo.
I don't really get sick of seeing any colors. I like see everyone's interpretation in design. People always surprise me. |
When I think of that combo I think summertime- cotton candy, sherbert,... I think I am so new back to quilting and all of the fabrics that it may take awhile to grow tired of them. Stash is too big to become bored with any color combo right now.
I dont like the mag. trend that mixes fabrics so the design is lost.
I don't like what I think of as dull colors like browns, tans, darker reds, which for me means most of the civil war fabrics. I like color, the brighter the better, scrappies are the best.
I love color, so any light or dull colors I get tired of quickly.
I got real tired of that blue and brown combo before it even hit fabrics. Every other designer on the HGTV design shows used that combo for at least a year and then it hit fabric designs. I don't like blue much in the first place and blue and brown together are really pretty boring since they're both fairly neutral.
I think the 'country blue and country mauve' - and I have LOTS of those fabrics!
I am a bit tired of the large scale prints that are so predominant. I would like to see some smaller scale prints with lots of colors rather than just a few . Seems like the smaller the scale the less colors are in the prints.
I looooove the blue and browns, especially if it's an aqua type blue, LOL!
I do think though, that it will be a combo that "dates" this era, just like mauve and dusty blue was in the 80's and that funky orange and brown (remember the mushroom pattern, LOL) was in the 70's. As for being tired, I think we will all be tired of it eventually. I'm just not yet, LOL! |
Each of us is so different, that I can't say there is any combo I get tired of. And there are soooooooo many patterns to use, where colors work differently within the same pattern.
black, gray & yellow..... also pink & brown....
Blue and yellow florals!
Most checks Vegetable prints!:p LOL! Jan in VA |
Turquoise & red or turquoise & orange. And the Halloween fabric lines all seem to have added purple and acid green to their repertoire, I suppose because they needed to add SOMETHING, and purple & green were complimentary. Pink and turquoise in Christmas lines. Can you tell I don't care much for turquoise?
Lime or acid green in combination with anything!
Pink and blue, pink and purple with yellow...... eeewwwww!
Lime green and pink. Also orange and brown
I know it is out of vogue, but still see it ...yellow and blue. It was popular with country style.

I don't like yellow for anything. I have small amounts of different shades for landscapes & applique (sometimes you do need yellow) but that's it. I'm not fond of greens that have a yellow base either. I still have scraps of country mauve & country blue...no matter how many string or crumb blocks I do those two colors never seem to get used up along with the country hearts. Don't like blue & brown either but, again, you just have to have those colors sometime! I love the "new" grays, aqua/turquoise, orange & red and a bit of that acid green (!shock!) to add a real punch! As someone else said...using the really busy patterned fabrics all together...usually in the same colors - yuk! Like she said you can't the quilt pattern for the busy-ness of the fabrics...gives me a headache.

Are there colors that I'm tired of seeing? No, no more than there are friends I'm tired of seeing. Just doesn't happen. :)
With all the hues, tints, tones, and shades, the are millions of colors and every one is affected by the light, the surroundings, the neighboring colors, and the viewer's state of mind when they see it. So, no, I never get tired of any color...I just need to take a break from some of them every now and then. |

When I started I thought the Civil war fabrics were drab and boring, but I just did one in tans, creams, and dark blues and I really loved it. I don't know if that will extend to mustard and moss....yuck!
I'm tired of looking at the peach-and-green and teal-and-tan. I had to do a quilt in teal and peach and simply couldn't find the fabric - teal and peach no longer go together. I will have to throw out that old Kmart shower curtain form the 80's LOL |
I might be the only one, but I don't like halloween fabric. I'm not a fan of halloween anyway so that fabric is something I shy away from. And I don't like food on fabric. I don't think I've ever made a quilt with black. I need to though. When I buy pre-cuts, I tend to toss aside any pieces that have black in them. I think I don't like flowery fabric with black in it. I would love to make an amish quilt with black...solid colors with black.
Most of the quilts I make are for children. I absolutely hate "old lady florals" in drab colors. There are florals that I do admire, but not the very formal ones in dark colors. I don't think I will like them even when I am an old lady -- I am sure some would call me that now!

I don't really have any colors that I actually "hate" but I have to force myself to buy pastels. I always seem to gravitate towards the darker and brighter colors. |

I like the country blue but I am with you on the mauve and the peach. Some one mentioned the modern blue and brown combo and I never liked that either. Waiting for that to pass.

So what are we all going to do with the colors we do not like. I love oranges, yellow and some food fabrics but dislike mauve and peach. Anyone like mauve and peach?
I'm tired of every Christmas fabric line having either aqua or black. I'd love to see a few more lines that are red, green, gold & cream. Traditional colors with modern prints.

Sometimes not finding the right color can be frustrating. I've been in the market for a dark green flannel, but for the last 2 years the flannels have been either too olive, too teal, or too apple/acid green. I'm hoping that fad will pass soon, and the forest and sage greens will come back! |
I don't think I get tired of color combos, just tired of working with the same fabrics for so long on one project. Maybe that's why I seldom finish projects...
I agree with Peckish, would really like to see some true greens. Greens that aren't yellow-green, lime-green,etc.
Oh yea, turquoise and brown. puckerific. Mauve, been out of date for many years. I have wallpaper with mauve and blue flowers that I despise but have yet to paint over. Dull Civil War colors? Not in my stash. Give me purple, green, and yellow any day. The brighter the better....THat said, I do lean toward the darker colors especially for borders or backgrounds....go figure.
I like all colors would be a different world if we were all the same huh?
I don't seem to get tired of any color groups as long as it is a beautiful pattern. True, we seem to use a lot of the same colors at times, but they will all come back in style in a few years!!

I do not like the dull tea-stain colors of what I think is called Civil War quilts. Somehow they just look old and tired. Also I dislike dusty pink and dusty blue combos, to me they are so 30 years ago. I couldn't believe it when a quilt shop I frequent used pink and blue as a color scheme for a block of the month. Give me color give me life! Wow I feel better LOL!
