Last month there was a thread here called "How good are you at THROWING AWAY?" Several people said they used their scraps to make comfort quilts. I searched through the pictures section for "comfort", but the quilts I found look like they were made from actual yardage.

If you make comfort quilts from scraps, could you please tell me how you do it? Pattern? Strips/scraps sewn together or on paper? Pictures would be fantastic!

Have you ever been out to Quiltville? She's a master at scrap quilting. Lots of ideas out there for you to adapt to smaller quilts. Lots of tips also, especially in the menu on the bottom right.

When you search, do an advance search and choose photos. That way you'll get actual photos of projects instead of questions about the subject.

Seach for crumbs, strings, strips, scrappy (not all on the same line, do several searches) and you'll find a lot of cool ideas for some scraps.

any scrappy quilt- there are tons of books on scrappy quilts- and any quilt can be given as a comfort quilt-
many quilt block patterns can be made from small pieces-scraps.
just search scrappy quilts- you will find so many it will blow your mind

I just made a top yesterday. I went through all my yellow and blue scraps and cut 6 1/2 in. squares. Sewed them together only making sure the same fabric wasn't in any row across. Pieced them 9 across X 12 down. Had a really nice heavy flannel sheet from a garage sale and cut that for backing. I'm taking it to my quilt club meeting today to pin. I started at 1 PM and finished the top at 8 PM with time out to make and eat dinner.
I'm making a strip quilt out of other scraps, but that is taking longer.
I'm making these for the eastern NY flood victims.

Margaret I think your problem is that, like me, you think scraps are just small pieces of fabric that are leftover from projects.
While to some quilters anything under 1/2 yard is considered a scrap.

Also some quilters control their scrap quilts by using only a few colors in them like blue, yellow and white, while others throw in everything. You just have to decide which way you want to go, or how many scraps you have to work with.

Check out Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville as others have suggested and you'll get the idea. Also the site http://www.maryquilts.com/ has some great ideas too, I usually make lots of scrappy string quilts for her HeartStrings project.

I make log cabins, 9 patch, strip, half square triangle - just about anything. I rarely buy yardage. Since I love scrappy - I am happy searching through my stash and finding fabrics pieces that compliment each other.
