Although my mama's words ring true, "A messy room is the sign of a creative mind," I am in the need for some massive accountability in regards to cleaning my sewing room. I would NEVER, EVER, NEVER post pictures of this mess before it's clean. So, please friends, if I haven't posted pictures of Coming Clean by Monday evening, please bug me, harrass me, stalk me, annoy me until I clean up this mess. I simply cannot function any more like this. Thanks.

Ok, I will bookmark this so that I'll remember to check for pictures of your clean playground :D

alikat110 06-18-2011 07:17 PM

Hey laura. I would be happy to come up for a day and help? Then maybe we can do some peicing together.

erstan947 06-18-2011 07:17 PM

If that's what you need to do.....then get to it!!!!:):) Keep us posted on your progress:)

Dina 06-18-2011 07:18 PM

You can do this!! Just reward yourself well....chocolate or fabric would work.

craftybear 06-18-2011 07:18 PM

I see your light on, are you taking a break from cleaning or are you done with your room

How can I harrass you when I have the same problem. I go in my sewing room with good intensions but alas, I get side tracked so to speak.

GreatStarter 06-18-2011 07:24 PM

Laura,
You can do this! Ok get your timer or alarm clock and set it to go off in a certain amount of time. Then work on cleaning up your sewing room until the alarm goes off. Then set timer again for a short break and do whatever you want. When alarm goes off you must go back to sewing room and CLEAN. Etc...
I know you can do this. Will be watching this post for pictures of your sewing room Monday!!!

Ya know, this is really a lot more enjoyable to do when you're not the only one cleaning. On another forum, we're having a Challenge for this month where any who wish to participate can post before, during and after pics of their sewing spaces.

It's really been inspiring and encouraging for so many of us to work on our sewing rooms simultaneously. There's been a lot of cheerleading going on and I've seen tons of progress, both in my sewing room and those of others.

Has anyone done this on this board before? This might be the accountability that you're looking for.

javin22 06-18-2011 07:42 PM

My Sewing room is so full of UFOS all over the place that I am afraid to go in there, I might be abducted!

wvdek 06-18-2011 08:04 PM

Ok girl! Time to clean and straighten not look at all your pretty fabric as you refold or all the patterns you could make. Get to it!!!

cctx. 06-18-2011 08:33 PM

Well, if I lived next door, I would come over and help you out.

We all need at least (1) day off from housekeeping, cooking, laundry, and tending to the family.

cjomomma 06-18-2011 08:36 PM

You can do this Hun! After the 25th I will be cleaning my quilting area up. Have fun with it. You might find things that you forgot was there. Work on one section at a time.

quilttiludrop 06-18-2011 08:47 PM

Good idea! It's easier to deal with one area at a time!

Painiacs 06-18-2011 10:11 PM

I'm trying to do mine too!

Following your post waiting for pictures!!!!

Go girl!

Val in IN 06-19-2011 02:55 AM

Good luck on your cleaning project! I've been working on mine for about a month (it's upstairs and HOT!!) I'm finally beginning to believe that I may see a light at the end of the tunnel. Don't give up! Keep plugging!

CAJAMK 06-19-2011 03:18 AM

Good luck! I finally had to do something. It was all over the place and I am on crutches for a few weeks after surgery. So if I wanted to even get in the room I had to clean up!

deedum 06-19-2011 03:44 AM

Yea I know, I have to have a neat organized mess or I can't work! :_

CAJAMK 06-19-2011 03:47 AM

today will be the first day I am going to work in my sewing room after knee surgery. I am glad it is picked up.

allie1448 06-19-2011 03:49 AM

Ok I am joining in the encouragement to make you clean up!! I know how you feel though as I spent four hours cleaning up my stuff the other day and then it took me ten minutes to mess it up again!!! lol Good luck and happy tidying!

SandyMac 06-19-2011 04:56 AM

Me neither

blueangel 06-19-2011 05:00 AM

OK girl, get to it.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-19-2011 05:28 AM

Oh hon, I know how you feel. I had an absolute DISASTER area. I started to work on it in November but got side-tracked with some very important family things.
Finally got in there in May and I'm ALMOST done. I actually showed "before" pictures and got tons of help from the board.
I'll be posting soon.
If I can do it anybody can. I'm a major slob in the sewing room! It was so bad that I couldn't use it. I set up my Featherweight in the kitchen. Now that's pathetic for someone who has a room to sew in!:D

darlenedowns 06-19-2011 06:15 AM

hello laura I do hope that by now you have gotten your sewing room looking like you want to go in it and get to quilting So that mess had better been cleaned up Its such a joy to have a healthy mind in a clean room you just feel so relaxed and able to function I do believe what your mother meant was the small messes you make when you are creating not the mess you seem to always leave behind from one mess to another etc........ So my suggestion to you is CLEAN UP YOUR MESS WHEN YOU ARE FINISH WITH ONE PROJECT BEFORE YOU GO ON TO ANOTHER
YOU WILL THINK ME ONE DAY HONEST YOU WILL
cause I am still thinking my friends and family for making me see things in a all new perspective SO GOOD LUCK on your new journey lol

Melinda in Tulsa 06-19-2011 06:51 AM

Unfortunately, as bad as my sewing room looks, at this point in time, it is the best looking room in the house! Anyone wanna help me clean house so I won't feel guilty sewing?!?

My LQS is saving me her empty bolts so I can organize my fabric better. That is the main problem in my sewing room. Yes, it's kinda cluttered, but I have no problem with that!

grandma nurse 06-19-2011 06:57 AM

About 6 months ago I took 2 weeks and cleaned my. Then it took a month before I could find what I wanted. When it is messy I know where everything is. Why is that????

tmjennings 06-19-2011 06:57 AM

To keep my sewing room organized and clean, I have made it a policy that when I finish a project, I straigten and put up everything, vacuum, etc before I start anything else. By doing this everytime, your room will stay nice and not cluttered.

I have the same policy, BUT it does not seem to apply to "new purchases" which do not seem to have a place to live LOL!!

I envy you Laura, because you are close to being done. I have to finish by July 1 so I can be ready for company, but I have a hard time not sewing when I come across a UFO. Maybe we should create a support group :D :D

sewmorethings 06-19-2011 07:07 AM

When you are done there come clean my room for me. Just can't seem to get it done and keep adding to the mess. Anyone else have that problem??????????????

Glenda m 06-19-2011 07:25 AM

Clean your room!!! Right now young Lady!!! Or no computer for the rest of the week. LOL

patski 06-19-2011 07:57 AM

I will be the cleaning fairy too! Keep at it, its soooo worth it

MomNanaWolf 06-19-2011 08:13 AM

Laura, your post got my attention as you have the same name as my dear daughter that I lost in 1998 SO that being said I will tell you what I always told her. If you want your room clean you have to get off your rear and do it yourself nobody will clean it for you. Figure out where you want everything to go and put it there, fold your fabrics and stack them so you can see what you have. Use a ruler to roll them and they will stack neatly. Put all small scraps that you intend to use in a tote and keep all needles and accesorys in a tote so that you know where they are.

Raggiemom 06-19-2011 08:18 AM

My husband was helping me move something in my sewing room last night and said "you know, this is really messy in here"! Wonder if I should clean and organize (again!)?

Twisted Quilter 06-19-2011 08:32 AM

Hey Laura, how's the cleaning coming along?

scrapykate 06-19-2011 08:39 AM

how is it going?? Just took a break from weeding but am going to hit my sewing room this afternoon to do a bit of cleaning before starting my next project.
reward yourself with ice cream!!
