Well, thanks to someone's glowing review of the customer service over at Connecting Threads I think I've found my new go-to for fabric and the like. My question though is how good is their thread? I'm in love with Gutterman thread, been using it exclusively since my first quilt, but good lord can it get expensive!

Does anyone use it? How is it? Their prices seem extremely reasonable, and I might throw a thread collection on my graduation wishlist if you guys think it's good enough. :)

rburnitt 04-28-2011 06:12 AM

I love there thread. It's great!

Rose L 04-28-2011 06:13 AM

I use it and I like it. It's good quality and it doesn't shred or fuzz up. In fact I should be receiving a good size order of thread from them today.

aborning 04-28-2011 06:13 AM

I have been using COnnecting Threads cotton for long arm quilting. Started it because of all the comments on here about people using it and liking it. I like it alot and it is economical. I also use Gutterman adn like it and buy it at JoAnn's whn on sale or use coupons. But my nearest JoAnn's is 45 minutes away. It's cheaper to pay for the shipping for Connecting Threads thread than it is to drive to JoAnn's.

Brynn 04-28-2011 06:14 AM

Great! I'm sure my family will be happy to see something other than a Featherweight show up on my graduation present wishlist, even though that's more wishful thinking than anything else.

kathy 04-28-2011 06:17 AM

another  for the thread, i use it in my midarm and love it

Charming 04-28-2011 06:18 AM

Well i have been using their thread for over a year and i like it (not than i know what the difference is, but i know it doesn't break on me...lol).Anyway congratulations on your graduations....wohooooo..

I guess I am odd man out here. I am not crazy about their thread, nor their poly for LAing. I am ecstatic that the one cone I bought of the poly for LAing is almost gone. The cotton I have also used in my LA but it makes a lot of lint in the bobbin case area. It does the job ok but there are too many other threads out there that I have discovered at comparable prices that I like much better.

quiltinggrandmaca 04-28-2011 06:19 AM

I too love the connecting threads thread. It is all I use.

What kinds of thread do you prefer? I've been sort of an isolated quilter since I started, and I'm curious about what other folks prefer and use.

jdiane318 04-28-2011 06:29 AM

I like their thread, have had no issues with it. All thread has some lint or fuzz, no more than any others. I will add that I have a serger and was using Maxilock. I ran out of off-white when I was sewing on my regular machine and used the Maxilock. I found it as good if not the same as Connecting threads. I have been using it to piece and it truly amazed me how it has held up. Looked at it through a microscope, didn't see any difference, either.

What brands of thread are out there at comparable prices? I sure haven't seen them.

the casual quilter 04-28-2011 06:38 AM

I really like it. I think the thread is great and the customer service is great.

Chele 04-28-2011 06:39 AM

Their thread is wonderful. I have a hard time using other brands after using the Connecting Threads brand. My machine loves it too. Not sure if this code still works, but free shipping through June 1 with the code: QUFRESH

thepolyparrot 04-28-2011 06:47 AM

I'm a big fan! :) It's a little bit lintier than Aurifil in my machines, but I dust out the bobbin area after every bobbin or two, anyway, so that doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

It comes in so many gorgeous colors and it's beautifully matte and smooth in a quilt. I've never had any problems with thread breakage and it mixes with whatever bobbin thread I'm using without any trouble.

Chele 04-28-2011 06:53 AM

The QUFRESH free shipping code works, you enablers! ;) So for $2.49, you can inexpensively sample a spool of their thread. And you won't even have to start the car or get out of your pjs!

featherweight 04-28-2011 06:58 AM

I have read all the great reviews on the QB for some time now. I am currently waiting anxiously on my porch for my first order from them to arrive.

PS Stitcher 04-28-2011 07:02 AM

Love, Love, Love their thread!!

Candace 04-28-2011 07:27 AM

I don't care for it. I can feel nubs on the thread with my fingers. It's not smooth and the lint created is double that of Gutterman or Aurifil. I bought one spool to try and I won't be buying it again.

irishrose 04-28-2011 07:33 AM

I don't like the lint. I will not be buying any more when my current spool is gone. I only use it on the top and my bobbin area is packed with aqua lint.

TerryQuilter 04-28-2011 07:40 AM

Love their thread, but when I did FMQ with the red it linted terribly. I had to vacuum my machine 3 times while quilting. I did use a light blue thread that didn't seem to lint as much though.

rusty quilter 04-28-2011 12:00 PM

Sorry, but have found their cotton thread to break way too often! I did like it at first...but not so much now.

Juliebelle 04-28-2011 01:13 PM

I use their thread and love it have never had an issue on either one of my machines

MadQuilter 04-28-2011 01:14 PM

I am almost out of the small neutrals I have and when I restock I will order the big spools. It works really well with my machine. I like it a lot.

pollyjvan9 04-28-2011 03:39 PM

I bought 3 of their selections that were on sale just before Christmas and I really, really love it. At 50% off it was a really good buy.

quilter1943 04-28-2011 04:41 PM

I use their Essential cotton thread almost exclusively. It's a great buy especially in the groups of 5 or so spools. I like it form FMQ also. I used Gutterman for years until I tried this and I do prefer it over the Gutterman.

Must be the difference in the quilting or sewing machine. For me, I only haVe half the lint with the Connecting Threads thread than I do with the Gutterman thread.

Numa 04-28-2011 06:27 PM

Use the cotton all the time and love it.

normasews 04-28-2011 06:34 PM

I use it for all of my sewing machines and love it. I haven't had any problems with it and will continue to purchase.

ckcowl 04-29-2011 01:09 AM

ive been using threads from Connecting Threads, exclusively for a year now AND LOVE THEM!!! i used to have so much trouble finding the right thread for my machines and projects- they carry everything i need and i have had very good luck using the threads.

justlooking 04-29-2011 03:05 AM

I agree, I love Connecting Threads threads. Won't use anything else.

Scakes 04-29-2011 04:03 AM

I recently ordered some of the thread and just started using it. I like it really well. I'm thinking about ordering some other colors.

newestnana 04-29-2011 04:52 AM

I am curious that many of you use (and prefer) Guterman. The Guterman is poly, right? So quite different from cotton thread (I don't expect nearly the lint from poly, and it's probably stronger).

I like the look of cotton thread for topstitching (haven't tried Connecting Threads) but my machine doesn't seem to like it so much.

BTW I buy my Gutermans when it's on sale at JoAnn's.

Thanks! I've always wanted to try their thread, but didn't want to pay the shipping.

drdolly 04-29-2011 05:02 AM

Love their thread. Have been using it for awhile, and I am expecting a pkg. any day from them. Can't wait. They really do have good service.

I started out using their variegated threads, now it is all I use. I buy the great big spools of the neutrals and have several of the "sets". Great place; great customer service!

aggie 04-29-2011 05:24 AM

Too linty

katlady 04-29-2011 05:34 AM

Use it all the time it is wonderful & great colors also.

sandpat 04-29-2011 05:37 AM

I use it almost exclusively for piecing....not so much for quilting.

fireworkslover 04-29-2011 05:53 AM

It does produce more lint than others, but I too like the colors for piecing and fmq. If I use Bottom Line by Superior Threads in the bobbin - then everything works out great!
