I have purchased many things from Connecting Threads and been very pleased.
I love them! I buy their essential pro thread to longarm quilt, their fabric, and their kits which are very generous in fabric. Actually, if you will notice, their kit charges are for the amount of fabric at the fabrics price - no charge for the pattern or for kitting it up. I love to find the kits on sale ;-) And as others have said, their customer service ROCKS!!
Their fabric is very high quality. My only complaint is they don't offer more choices. But when they do run out of a certain fabric or line...it is GONE for good as far as I can tell. So if you really see some you love get it before it's gone.
Connecting threads is wonderful!
Sorry, I just noticed in my first post I said I sent back the Tula Pink fabric. I donated the fabric to my guild sale table and sent the shop my complaint about it. I was thinking of something else when I posted.
DITTO!!!! CT fabric is awesome!
I have used their fabrics and kits for years and have not had a single piece that was not good quality.
Think I'll go take a peak at their site and maybe see about getting a catalogue. Love looking at things online but also love flipping pages!! (I'm old - I know)
Thank you for the info about WM fabric. I'm new to quilting. The only place I can shop locally is WM but I do order from CT. Have ordered a Keepsake Quilting catalog but it has not arrived.
I have ordered fabric and thread from CT many times and never had a complaint.
IMO, Connecting Threads fabrics are certainly higher in quality than "middle". I've been buying from them for years and have never been disappointed. Their cuts are generous and occasionally they'll throw in an extra bit (like the end of the bolt) at no extra cost.
Kits on sale can't be beat! I love their FQ bundles! And their shipping to the mainland is free over $50 (I think it's $50) and best of all only $7.50 to Hawai`i (and Alaska) no matter how large the shipment. And, believe me, there have been occasions when a heavy, giant box arrived on my porch and my DH heaved a sign of relief that I didn't pay a small fortune for the shipping! :) |
had great results there and at a THOUSAND BOLTS. (no association, just like this online only shop also)

They have good quality fabric. I went to one of their rare warehouse sales and came home with two huge sacks full of good-sized pieces, many in coordinating stacks. I don't dare indulge in catalog offerings for awhile but I breathe heavily thumbing through.

http://www.connectingthreads.com/cti...308_GMAIL.html I tried to go to my settings and the first time it worked exactly like they said, but that page disappeared and I have never been able to get it back. Any suggestions? |
I ordered CT fabric and was pleased. I heard that one way that they keep their prices low is by not offering a huge range of colors. What I ordered with, I am pleased with, but it is true that their colors aren't as broad (in one piece of fabric) as others such as Kauffman, etc.
I haven't used what I ordered yet, but I do like the hand/feel of it. |
I made an order with them just a couple of months ago. I am very happy with what I got.
I've used a lot of CT fabrics. Some of it can be thin, but most is not. It is definitely a 'go to' for me; but fabric.com sales are my favorite, since you don't need so much to get free shipping and often the price is as good.
I love that CT doesn't mark up the prices on their pre-cuts. Same price as yardage! (And usually a good black friday pre cut sale!) |
I love the thread, I've done one fabric order. I haven't done another because for some reason the colors are distorted on my computer so all the colors I received were not what I saw on my monitor. I haven't wanted to fool around with comparing it with my iPad and such. The fabric to me is on the rough side, I've only ordered the marbled solids in three different colors. I used them all for backs on quilts. It doesn't get much softer after I washed the quilts. I buy fabric and use it, another reason I probably won't order again because of the fact it doesn't soften up enough for my taste. Thousands of bolts sells the name brands for 5-7 dollars a yard so there are choices for budget shoppers like me.

Some people will not drive a Chevy or Ford, has to be Lexus or Cadillac, each to his own and nice some have so much money they can afford to be so picky, some of us on SS have having a hard time and if WM fabric feels and looks good, so be it. I sure can't afford 12-15 dollars a yard and attitude that goes with it at local QS..
I have ordered quite a bit from CT and am pleased with their products and service. Only one collection I found to be a little thinner than others. And I feel their batiks are a little lighter weight than LQS but not enough difference to make me avoid them. I use their thread almost exclusively because of range of color and price. I think it may be more linty in my machine but I have not used premium thread enough to compare. I just clean under the plate more often. I have found that some prints in brand new collections are sold out before I can get online to take a look. There was a print that I would have gone back to order in all colors available because it would have been a good basic for me but was in a collection and was no longer available. Their flannels are nice and thick and soft - I have made pjs for me and baby items. I order my batting from Joanns because I now use mostly Warm and White and buy when it is on sale or use 40 - 50% off coupon and free shipping codes (even to Alaska)!!! If you are ordering from Fabric.com be sure to check Retail me Not for discount codes before you order.
Don't get me started on Walmart!!!! They eliminated the fabric dept. in our local smaller WM (not a superstore) to put in more electronics. This is a small town with a couple of small quilt shops. Is anyone going to spend $10 -11/yard to build a Halloween costume???? I don't think so. I did buy fabric in WM early on in my quilting. I was always careful about what I chose and always prewashed. Their Cranston fabrics were nice quality. I also shopped their precuts for decorator/outdoor fabrics for tote bags and tablecloths. We have hands down the worst WM in the country. I know this because during our RVing days we were in WMs in Canada and all the way across the U.S. to FL. We have employees who don't speak English, don't know the merchandise in their dept., manager who is never there, often used products never on the shelves, and toilet paper in the paper towel dispenser in the rest room, and on and on. My husband has the corporate phone number in his wallet and does not hesitate to use it. This is a small town. If we had an alternative, that is where we would go. Thanks for the opportunity to vent. I feel better! N |
I have tried to support my LQS but can't afford them anymore at $11.50-13.00/ yd. I have bought from CT and liked the feel of their fabric. I have heard that all fabric is being printed overseas. My dd and her college friends were boycotting WM. I remarked to her, WM = parttime, no benefits, low wages, everyhing made overseas. Macy's= parttime,no benefits, low wages, everything made overseas. The difference was in quality. Most people buy what they can afford. As an aside, DH just bought his new suit and shirt for son's wedding. Shirt $ 75 made in china.

I just got an order from CT..Love their fabric and the customer service....

Great! Another fabric source. I'm always looking for good ones. Going to check this out right now! LOL

I didn't know that. I'll be on the look out now for sure. Thanks for the helpful tip! |
I have purchased from CT and have always been pleased. The only draw back with Connecting Threads is when they bring out a new line. When you see it, you better buy it. It sells out quickly. Their fall line this year with the orange, tan, sunflowers and gray went fast. It was great to work with and finished up so nicely. I wish I had bought more with the sunflowers on it.
I LOVE CT fabrics! My suggestion to anybody is to see for yourself by buying a kit. Their prices are very reasonable and I feel you can't go wrong by starting out with a kit or a fat quarter package.
Another online store you might want to check out is Fabric.com. I have ordered there many times and there fabric is great. If you spend $35 dollars, shipping is free. I have been purchasing mostly apparel fabric, I'm going to try sewing clothes again after many years away from garment sewing. For the person who said that all Wal-Mart fabric is junk is incorrrect. I have purchased fabric from Wal-Mart, my LQS, and a small local dept.store. I bought some lovely flannel from my LQS, brought it home, threw it into the washer and then the dryer. As I was folding the fabric to be put away, I noticed a flaw going down the entire length of the fabric. I had planned on making a whole cloth baby quilt with the fabric, but, after I saw the flaw going down the middle of the fabric, I will have to make other plans for the flannel. My point is, don't be afraid to try Connecting Threads or any other store for that matter. Find out if you like it.
My only problem with their fabric is that it fades faster than any other fabric I have purchased. At the end of last year I rearranged my stash onto boards and ended up giving away quite a bit of fabric because it had faded. And it was almost all from CT.

[QUOTE=misseva;6251370]greige goods?, crispness of design? subtle tones? evenness of dye coverage? Goodness is my ignorance showing! I just pick material 'cause I like it. just sayin[/ That makes two of us!!!

My CT story. I bought charm squares several years ago and never opened them. I stopped quilting and just started again. Well the charm squares used selvedge edges to make the 5" so I can't use them for that. I decided it was my problem for not looking at it when I got it. I called them to see if that was their normal process, just to know if I could by charm pks again and what actual size they would be. I was told that early on the cutters were not trained very well and that now I should not have that happen. They proceeded to say the fabric line was no longer available but they would substitute a similar line if I wanted. That is superior customer service! I'll sure buy from them again.
On the flip side I asked another big QS what mfg. made a certain fabric. (I favor some mfgs over others). I was told that information was confidential and not released to customers, but, they have a great return policy. Not wanting to go through any return process and keeping the mfg a big secret, I asked to be removed from their mailing list. For the money spent wherever you spend it IMHO customer service will win every time. |
I buy their fabrics and threads whenever they are on sale and I have the extra cash. Have never had a problem. Even when I did have a problem with one of my orders, I called them up, explained the problem and they made it right, no questions asked, no returns, etc. Can't beat that. Of course I always buy enough to get the free shipping so its win-win situation for me.
Last time they had a sale on the their threads, I ended up with 192 spools, 20 pounds worth all free shipping.....:-D |
I only bought fabric once from CT. It was from one of their collections last spring and I absolutely fell in love with the fabric, so I had to have it for the backing of one of my quilts. I had heard good things about them, so I didn't hesitate to place the order. You can't imagine my surprise when it arrived looking not even close to what was on their website. The color was totally different (I know there are differences in monitors, but this wasn't even close), the hand was flimsy and the fabric was poorly woven. It would never have stood up to any wear, much less washing many times. I called immediately and they said I could return it, at my cost of course, and that they would refund what I paid for the fabric, less their shipping costs. They sent a refund a couple of weeks later, but it was a very disappointing experience, just the same. I don't think I will order fabric from them again.
I have ordered from Fabric.com with great results, from Thousands of Bolts and from Annie's, as well, with no problems. I have a couple of favorite online sites where I can order without worrying about the quality or price. I also order my thread from a couple of online sites because I only use Aurifil and even with shipping it is less expensive per spool than my LQS. I am not saying you should not order from CT, just that I wouldn't take the chance, again. |
I have ordered from CT many times and have never been disappointed. Arrive in just a few days, perfectly packaged and well priced. Many times have found that border or backing fabric for half the price I would spend at my LQS. I keep in mind our local stores couldn't survive if we purchased everything on line but to get a really good bargain sometimes, I succumb.
I buy from them frequently, have only ever had a problem with the batiks, they fade faster and more than other batiks I buy for some reason - i've started prewashing in retayne for those. I have two full sets waiting to be cut into (Soaked and Bookish) and have been very happy.
I've had good luck with the fabrics I bought from them and they have excellent service. Once they sent me the wrong fabric, and when I called they said to just keep it and they would send what I ordered. It was a nice group of fat quarters that they had send in error so I was very happy to keep them.
I love their fabrics and the only thing keeping me from ordering this time is I want to visit my DD in Mn and need to save $$$$.Youwon't be disappointed with them.
I got the same email message. It was just to inform you that Gmail may put emails in different folders and you may not know it unless you check. It's no big deal. I got emails from most all the online shops saying the same thing.
I have bought their batiks, which did not have a good hand, but I think they got rid of that fabric. otherwise, I am satisfied with what they offer.
Joann's came to our town and I bought fat quarters which are awful. Never again. I shop sales at Hancocks of Paducah and they have great fabric. |
