I bought the Lazy Daisies Kit- took one look at it and had to have it.
Bought several things that day and to my surprise it arrived 2 days later!
Well, I had a problem with one border fabric not being long enough. I called them and they immediately told me they'd send more.
As we spoke she said the Fall catalog is coming with some nice things and LOWER prices.!! Yippee!!!!
Thought I'd pass this along :)

All of the borders in the kit had long enough yardages except for one. The instructions said to piece it and that just didn't sit well with me hence the phone call.
Just wondering if that's ever happened to anyone else. I don't like piecing a border unless I have to. Never expected it in a kit. Anyway, they agreed to send me enough at no charge so I wouldn't have to piece.
Let me know if this has happened to you. It was my first kit purchase.
Thanks!!!
Sue

I love Connecting Threads and having lower prices just makes me love them more!!!

ginnie6 07-28-2010 11:01 AM

I love Connecting Threads too and lower prices is great! Their thread is awesome!

nativetexan 07-28-2010 11:02 AM

i still have one or two kits from them i've not used. i must dig and find them. probably will sell here when i do!

Candace 07-28-2010 11:25 AM

I piece borders all the time.

raptureready 07-28-2010 11:33 AM

The border on my avy is completely pieced with 2 1/2" strips. I don't mind piecing a border. However I want it to be my choice not the choice of the kit maker.

Lakeview Quilting 07-28-2010 11:43 AM

Thanks for the Connecting Threads update, they are one of my favorites.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. The kit wasn't cheap !

sueisallaboutquilts 07-28-2010 11:47 AM

I would also like to know how to stock up on thread when it's always out of stock???

nellie 07-28-2010 11:49 AM

thanks i always order from them

Candace 07-28-2010 12:24 PM

It's great they're lowering their prices...but this just probably means they're sending more jobs out to Asia :< I hope not, but....

BellaBoo 07-28-2010 01:02 PM

I always buy their kits when they are on clearance. It doesn't matter if I like them or not. They have great fabric to use in other patterns. And I love seeing a guild member's face light up with a gift of a quilt kit!

Mary M 07-28-2010 01:46 PM

It is good news to hear prices are coming down. My daughter bought a bunch of thread I had been wanting but I haven't tried much of it yet. Good to hear that someone does like it.
I have been thinking of trying some of their fabric.

CarrieAnne 07-28-2010 01:48 PM

Thats great news. I think I just got a new catalog, but I havent even had a chance to look at it yet!

wvdek 07-28-2010 02:13 PM

Glad they made it right.

Aully 07-28-2010 02:50 PM

I just wish they had Paypal for payment as some of use don't have credit cards. lol! :)

ClairVoyantQuilter 07-28-2010 03:15 PM

Are you pretty happy with the quality of the fabric used in the kits? I just LOVE the Martha Washington Sampler kit but have never purchased one of the kits before.

Yes, very happy with the quality of fabrics. It was my first ever kit and I'm excited to get it made. :D
Haven't seen the Martha Washington kit- I bet it's nice!!

My DD bought me a quilt and herself the same quilt kit for Christmas last year, we both got enough to make 2 quilt tops, used different fabrics for backing. They're fabric is top quality and all fabric is 100% cotton and all made in USA. I doubt they would send any jobs out of USA, they would loose too much business if they did.
Thread is top quality also, I bought DD and myself 70 Spools each for Christmas last year.

LoL I don't think they will be outsourcing the jobs to Asia (or anyplace else!) They have a call center in Vancouver WA and the warehouse is in OH ... it's a great company to work for!

thismomquilts 07-28-2010 06:42 PM

Connecting Threads does not send their jobs to Asia - they grow cotton here in the states and manufacture all their fabrics here too...

thismomquilts 07-28-2010 06:43 PM

I love their fabrics and will buy from them all the time - as long as they keep their jobs here in the states!!!

PiecesinMn 07-28-2010 08:41 PM

I have been tempted to buy fabric from Connecting Threads but wasn't sure of the quality. Sounds like I can buy with confidence. Question though, is it the same quality as quilt shop fabric????

franie 07-28-2010 08:45 PM

I love Connecting Threads other than they won't honor free shipping to us Americans up here. I just bought a bunch of batting from them. The shipping was worth it too.

franie 07-28-2010 08:45 PM

All CT fabrics made in USA!

PiecesinMn 07-28-2010 08:48 PM

They have batting on sale until the middle of August. I love Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 and if you order on line and spend $50.00 they will ship free (at least that's how I read the ad). I'm planning on ordering the batting (Joann's doesn't carry this brand anymore) and I'm going to try some of their fabric as well. That's for your opinion.

I mean thanks for your opinion not that's for your opinion. Getting late, better not start quilting. Who knows what a mess I'll make of things

littlehud 07-29-2010 06:37 AM

Lower prices........yeah. I love Connecting Threads anyway and now I have an even better reason to shop there.

ckcowl 07-29-2010 06:42 AM

Most kits if they include borders (and it's a large quilt) they are pieced borders. the people who put together the kits do not cut the fabrics lengthwise, they cut salvage to salvage (across the width) so if the border is longer than 40" it is going to be a pieced border. this is normal. It is amazing that they will send you a lengthwise cut new border fabric for free; but i love their site so just one more gold star for them !

I purchased yardage from CT a few months ago when they were having a great sale on a discontinued line. I had never ordered fabric before fro them, only a few patterns. Arrived in just a few days, but the fabric was a disappointment. Didn't feel at all like the 100% cottons from any LQS - was denser & almost had a poly-like feel to it. I showed it to some QFs & they agreed that it was definitely different (the selvage did read 100% cotton tho) Has anyone else had this issue? I just wonder if some of their fabric is more like the LQS & some not?
Thoughts, please?

I thought it had a silky feel but I think that Moda and the likes have the same silky smooth feel.

I like connecting threads and I will order form them again. I just ordered for the first time this month and I loved the colors and the feel of their fabric. The only thing that I thought was weird was it seemed that the weave was a bit loose.
It was dense like number if threads per inch but it seemed that it would unravel at the edge. Hasn't yet just a little but nothing major. I didn't pre wash because of that.
We will see how it does

quilt3311 07-30-2010 04:56 AM

I love ordering from them. They always make good if there is an error in an order or as you said something doesn't fit. They have loyal customers who advertise for them by telling others they have "service".

& haven't bought their fabric yet - but I've always had great service on books, patterns & thread :)

DITTO to this one!

I love CT too. Their fabric and thread are superb. Never had a complaint when ordering from them. I ordered a queen quilt kit, made it and had so much left over that I made an additional lap quilt. Only mistake I made was the binding...they said to seam the binding and I seamed it on the diagonal. OOPS, ran out of fabric so had to improvise.

Jeannie34 07-30-2010 06:43 AM

they are a good company to do business with. a friend got a kit with fabric shortage and they sent out the fabric right away. I love ordering books also.

rwquilts 07-30-2010 06:45 AM

I like Connecting Threads fabrics and thread for sewing in my machine, but I don't use the cone thread for quilting with my midarm quilter as it breaks horribly with the extra pressure on it. I can only use Signature for that.

SuzanneTx 07-30-2010 07:21 AM

I <3 CT's and I also wish a LOT of places took paypal. I'm going to have to trek to the PO to get an international money order for a pattern BUT I dearly love that pattern.

catmcclure 07-30-2010 07:32 AM

Order the threads whenever you need them, but always buy five or six spools. I get five or six of white, grey, cream and black. When I get down to two spools of white, I reorder the white.
