In a recent post many of you raved about the thread from Connecting Threads. What kind were you using and why? I want to jump on board if it is better than Gutterman. I use it mostly for piecing.

amy WI 09-29-2011 11:55 AM

I use the essentials thread. I bought the black and white set and I love it! I use it for piecing too.

MellieKQuilter 09-29-2011 11:55 AM

I believe it is their own Brand...

jljack 09-29-2011 11:56 AM

It works great for piecing and the price is great!!

fabric_fancy 09-29-2011 11:58 AM

i use it in my vintage singers because they thread on the outside but i never use it in my modern juki machines that thread inside the machine.

the lint is extreme compared to other brand threads and in my juki i would have to clean the machine after 2 hours of use because the lint build up causes me to skip stitches.

0tis 09-29-2011 12:00 PM

I just ordered some - I am looking forward to trying it especially if its not too linty - can't wait.

Candace 09-29-2011 12:19 PM

There's a current thread going on about this(no pun intended)...and MANY more if you use the search feature above to do a search.

dhanke 09-29-2011 12:29 PM

I use it alot, it's a bit linty, but no more so that Star or coats and clark. My Janome isn't fussy, I just clean out the bobbin area a couple of times during each project. The price and color selection can't be beat, especially when it's on sale.

Their thread is in fact the same as Star. A thread company doesnt make their product then limit it to just one store - they just change the label. I prfer not to use that thread because of the lint and thickness. Takes up too much room in the seams. Aa far as great colors, that is rrue, but personally I only buy white, off white, black and gray. If in the rare event I need a color, I vuy a small spool of Coats and Clark or Gutterman.

The CT Essential Pro is what I use for piecing for top and bobbin. It's thin and strong and no lint. It's a great value for the quality.

Do you use it with a regular sewing machine or long-arm? I love their thread, but haven't ever tried the Essential Pro.

the casual quilter 09-29-2011 03:42 PM

I also use it for piecing and really like it. Haven't used it for quilting, though.

snipforfun 09-29-2011 03:45 PM

The Pro thread looks a lot like Superiors So Fine. Just might give it a try. Didnt like the regular thread, but this may be a better choice.

feffertim 09-29-2011 04:40 PM

I use it all the time, works well in my Viking, have not noticed a lot of lint. Love all the colors and of course the great price.

jillnjo 09-29-2011 04:44 PM

I love CT, but their thread is too linty for me to use without cleaning out the bobbin area and it even gets all over my needle! I would like to try the pro line and would be delighted if it worked well.

I purchased a couple of cones of this to try. I am beginning to be a big fan. And there are now so many more colors available. I'm using it for piecing as well as quilting. Can't beat the price, no lint, strong...what's not to like?

DogHouseMom 09-29-2011 05:32 PM

Hated it. Traded it here on the QB for some fabric.

Too linty. SERIOUSLY linty. It was so bad I had to clean the needle shaft so I could see what I was doing after an hour or so of quilting.

It's also quite a bit thicker compared to other quality 50wt threads. While this may not seem like a big deal, remember it takes up that much more room in your seam and if you like working in small pieces like me, that little bit of space adds up to a whole lot!!

jaciqltznok 09-29-2011 05:46 PM

as you can see, EVERY person has a different reply...how can the same thread be linty on one machine and not at all on another...because it is NOT just the thread, but the machine, the speed at which you sew and even the needle that play into the LINT program.
AS for CT threads, they used to be made in the USA, not so any more. The used to be stronger, but my last batch broke a lot, even after putting it in the freezer for two days!

I guess it is like everything else these days..you have to try it for yourself and thus form your own opinions on it!

Ditto :D

CruisingStef 09-29-2011 06:16 PM

I also use CT thread and love it. It is a bit linty, but most of the threads out there today are. My machine isn't picky, I'm just sure to clean it every two hours of use.

Interesting info! I always wonder how one product could be so different for each sewer. It's good we have many choices, just if we can figure out what is best for our machines!

Don't forget that fabric plays a huge part in the 'lint' process.

I don't find CT to be linty. Posted many times that I only use it as top thread in ALL my projects. My bobbin thread is Superior Bottom Line. That combo works great in my Janome6500

kiffie2413 09-29-2011 07:03 PM

I also love CT, but not their thread....sorry, but it was just too linty for me...way more so than I figured it would be...just mho...

I don't have lots of lint when I use their thread. Do you think it could be that I used a metallic needle which has a large eye than standard needles? Eyesight isn't as good as it used to be and the larger eye helps me thread easily. I drop the feed dogs and clean the bobbin area every time I change bobbin thread.

BellaBoo 09-29-2011 07:55 PM

I use the Pro for piecing and machine quilting. I like it a lot.

judi43 09-30-2011 03:06 AM

I like the Connecting Thread, Threads. Yes there a little linty but do a great job & we all need to clean our machines a little more ofter anyhow.

I use their brand and i love it! I have a Juki and it balks at C and C. but never a problem with the Connecting Threads Thread!

lovedquilts 09-30-2011 03:33 AM

aurofil is my favorite piecing thread

mjsylvstr 09-30-2011 04:16 AM

I am very interested in this QB thread about the CT threads !!!!!!

I am awaiting a purchase in which I ordered thread.......

so far, I have no complaints with the previous threads. I use it for piecing but was told one time that I could use it in machine quilting. Have not tried that as yet.

I have written a note to them and will post it when I receive a reply.

The very first cone I bought I found it linty and it was breaking all the time but I changed my needle and it solved the problem. That was for piecing.
This week end I gave it the real good test with a good size embroidery cleaned the machine first of course and also about half way just in case and it turned out very good.

I had no problem at all
So I think I just been unlucky with that first comne because my embroidery used about 11 colors and had no problem at all :-) So I will definitely continue to buy from them !!

damaquilts 09-30-2011 04:49 AM

I am going to have to try the Pro line. I have used their other threads and they seemed fine to me no more linty than Coats, but I did buy that about a year ago. I would love to buy a more expensive thead but I buy what I can afford.

Tudey 09-30-2011 04:51 AM

I love the Essentials thread. I buy black, white and natural in the large cones and use them ALOT!

catladyquilts 09-30-2011 04:56 AM

I have all the color sets of the essentials thread and love them all, never had a problem with any of them.

annthreecats 09-30-2011 04:56 AM

I use the Essentials Cotton Thread from Connecting Threads. I bought it because I'm new to quilting and wanted to try it. My Bernina 1530 loves it so I'll continue to use it. I checked my bobbin area last night after doing some sewing and didn't find a lot of lint. YMMV.

kraftykimberly 09-30-2011 05:02 AM

Does anyone know if they ever run sales on the the pro line? I'd like to try it but will wait for a sale if one could be coming up. I've been using the Essential Cotton and with the exception of the extra lint it produces (and its quite a bit) I like it and my Janome's like it.

roadrunr 09-30-2011 05:09 AM

I bought some because when I got my new sewing machine they recommended not to use coats & clark. It is a little linty, but not as linty as coats & clark and the price is real food, especially for the amount of thread that you get on a spool. I ordered some more when they a 30% off sale, so the price is real good and trhe shipping isn't too expensive. I now have a supply of thread that should last me for quite a while.

Surfergirl 09-30-2011 05:39 AM

I use the Essential cotton thread from CT and don't have a problem with it. I did a search on the Essential Pro from CT and it is 100% polyester and doesn't produce any lint. My concern with polyester threads is melting when pressing with iron. I had this happen once and hesitate to use polyester thread. Has anyone else had this experience with polyester threads?

adnil458 09-30-2011 06:18 AM

YLI Soft Touch for piecing :)

Quilty-Louise 09-30-2011 06:24 AM

I use to use coats & clark, then I bought some of the
CT thread and loved it. Now I won't use ANYTHING else.
