Update : I did what a lot of people suggested and just took a step back yesterday, tried to clear my head. Made a nine patch with the material thinking that it might be better to just make an entire different block. Did not like that either so decided that I needed to clean my area, and sort through my fabric and try to get organized. Well, I fixed the blocks that I had and put the dark strips on one side. I will post pics as soon as my dd camera starts working again. I started to work on the other blocks and fixed and sewed on the first light purple. I still have to rip some, one time I had wrong sides together. Shees, like I am not having enough trouble, then I make a mistake like that.
I sure appreciate all the encouragement and the good advice. I love this web site. Someone asked me if I was left handed, sorry I am not, just making the mistakes on my own. :-) Thanks everyone.

That is what is throwing me off, that is how I learned it but that is not how I see it in the book. I am probably looking at the book wrong. I will get this, and make a beautiful quilt... right?

You WILL get it.
Cut & stack & follow each step closely in the book.
It will "click" in & then you'll wonder why you had a hard time with it.
I wish I was closer......

Goodness, I don't know if I want to do a log cabin quilt or not if it's going to be this much trouble! I am left-handed but what would make this block difficult for a left-handed person?
