This was a Joann Fabric's BOM that I never got all the pieces for so it became a UFO. I had a lightbulb moment the other day and decided to turn it into either a baby quilt or doll quilt for a friend's kiddo. I had one heck of a time finding complementary fabric but alas, it's come together.

I am debating adding another small white border around the outside of the quilt. What do you think? Binding is dark green.

FYI-This is my 100th post :D

Bind and finish.

And GREAT save!

What parts did you have to "create" to fill it out? Just the borders?
Looks like it all came from the same kit.

And congratulations on your 100th post!

Mo_Chride 05-10-2011 10:46 AM

What are the measurements of that block?

Tara

Mo_Chride 05-10-2011 10:47 AM

Oh, and it is a very pretty block and a good way to get a UFO off your list!

Which one?

Mo_Chride 05-10-2011 10:48 AM

Sorry, what is the "final" measurement of what you took a picture of?

Wow, thanks. The below picture shows what I started with. There are two left over blocks (a nine-patch and appliqued block that I didn't use.) I only added the pink and green border strips.

I love it! What a great transformation.

You can always use the two extra blocks on the back.

MamaBear61 05-10-2011 11:08 AM

Very pretty, well done.

Mo_Chride 05-10-2011 11:12 AM

Wow! That certainly is a wonderful transformation. I never would have guessed your beginning point from your end point. It all ties together so nicely that I actually though that it was just a single, compicated block.

I personally like the binding to "show" in most cases. For me, that way it doesn't feel like the quilt just falls away. The binding feels like a frame to me. With the measurements you gave me, it feels to me like it would be reasonable and not get too big if you added the white border or even any colour not dark green and then the green binding would pop out and frame it.

It is a wonderful quilt and a great save. i am sure that whomever gets it will love it.

You might want to try a binding with a "faux" piping of the whithe plus whichever color you choose for the binding itself. Here's a tutorial of the "faux" piping binding I'm talking about:

sueisallaboutquilts 05-10-2011 01:16 PM

Oh wow, I love it!!! Thanks for the suggestion.

TonnieLoree 05-10-2011 06:24 PM

I can't believe you had to ask! That is lovely, and a nice save if I might add.

Quilting Angel 05-11-2011 01:47 AM

I think the small white border would be a nice frame for it. It looks beautiful. Love the colors.

Marion T 05-11-2011 01:50 AM

I agree with all the comments - you've done a great job. We call these "orphan" blocks in our house, and we keep them all.

I think whatever you decide to do will be ok, you've obviously got lots of creative juices flowing.

stitchntimesewing 05-11-2011 02:52 AM

I think a border would be fabulous. It is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

jeanneb52 05-11-2011 03:23 AM

Very pretty. Just bind

Joan Dickson 05-11-2011 05:04 AM

Would make a beautiful table runner - I really like it.

mimee4 05-11-2011 05:08 AM

An incredible save. You made the quilt blossom!!!

GramaLaura 05-11-2011 05:53 AM

Great save.....I love it!!! :-D

quiltingnonie 05-11-2011 05:55 AM

Lovely, just lovely! If it were mine, I would add a white border then the dk green binding.

AUQuilter 05-11-2011 06:43 AM

What a way to finish the UFO!

fivepaws 05-11-2011 06:48 AM

How cute.

sewnsewer2 05-11-2011 06:51 AM

Cute! Good idea.

ShirlinAZ 05-11-2011 07:02 AM

That really looks good. I don't think I'd add a border. Just bind it with some very dark pink or red to match the dark in your center blocks.

munchkinmama 05-11-2011 07:09 AM

Great job of making lemonade out of lemons!!

caspharm 05-11-2011 08:46 AM

Great just the way it is. Just finish it.

quiltmouse 05-11-2011 09:07 AM

I just love it!!! Not a "traditional" baby quilt, but it will be much loved & appreciated by your recipient.

You did a charming job tying it all together. Beautiful & Sweet!

?? use the leftover blocks on the backing?

Maurene 05-11-2011 09:40 AM

Wow! Great nearly FO! Quilt, bind with either the maroon or dark green. Love it

franie 05-11-2011 09:50 AM

Love those colors. Made lemonade out of lemons! Love it!

writerwomen 05-11-2011 10:49 AM

Would also make a nice wall hanging or a center piece for the table. add a few candle sticks and a box of chocolates and give it as a gift. that's one christmas gift done early

rona thickpenny 05-11-2011 11:06 AM

I agree. very sweet.
