I made a nine patch corduroy quilt, used a thin blanket for batting and flannel for the backing, and then tied it. It is heavy but sooooooooo warm

Some very pretty quilts in this thread! I would never have thought of using courduroy (sp) but it sure would make a nice warm, heavy quilt. Sounds wonderful! You ladies are so creative!

Thanks everyone for these wonderful ideas! I too have some corduroy waiting for a purpose.

My first quilt was entirely made from corduroy, front and back. It is HEAVY, but very warm. I'd probably do just one or the other (front or back) with corduroy next time, so it wasn't quite so heavy.
Here's a link to my quilt http://kristaquilts.blogspot.com/2011/10/quillow.html |
I scored a bunch of free corduroy this summer, so I just backed a quilt with it! I think it would also make great rag quilt squares.

Great Idea. Another thought is that people use denim in quilts and table runners or hope chest tops so why not corduroy?

I made a corduroy and denim quilt for a friend 25 years ago. He has it dry cleaned once a year and its still his favorite quilt. Just be generous with the seams becasue corduroy frays easily, with washing the seams will pull loose faster than other fabrics.

I found with corduroy that it tends to 'swim' and you loose the precise edges when making a block. Better to save it for another project - like a totebag!
