That is so beautiful!! Have you checked to make sure your pieces are cut exactly correct?

OraLee 10-16-2011 11:57 AM

Some times if you iron your seam the other way it helps to make things line up. I know because I have done this.

Yes, I was matching the edges. I know better now. Thanks.

I think when you do this, make sure that the pin is 1/4 inch in on the slanted seam and match up at 1/4 in in on the straight seam. Maybe you are matching up the edges of the fabric where the seams meet instead of at the seam allowance. Ann

Well, yes and no. I need to work on that. I try to but they still never seem to be exact. Not exactly sure how to do it. I probably need to take some classes. We live out in the country and the closest class is about an hour away so I just do until I get stuck and then fight with it. I think it would probably help if I had better light.

somtimes if you sink your needle into the actual spot where the pieces must meet and then sew outward from there first in one direction and then the other...you can convince the fabric to do your will

cdmmiracles 10-16-2011 05:39 PM

wow, what's this pattern called?

GingerK 10-16-2011 06:09 PM

SunlitenSmiles--what a good idea!! I have had a similar problem with a top that I am working on. I finally got it right but my seam ripper was smoking! I will try your idea next time. Thank you! Oh and Slhager, your colour choices are lovely. It will be a beautiful top--honest!!

From what I see you need to unpick down to just past the triangle piece, then start sewing from the TOP edge, then you will find that the corner should be right... but pin the top piece, then pin the triangle piece to where it should be... then sew.

Beautiful fabric choices. Double check every seam allowance and pin. Even an 1/8 inch off on a full size quilt can add up to 5 inches! Every seam allowance matters.

I would rip it and sew a very scant 1/4 seam. The more seams in a block, the greater chance of it not fitting together correctly...ask me how I know. I bet your seams are not all 1/4" or that is usually what happens when I have issues.
