I'm on my way to visit DD and have the quilt I made for her. It's in a separate suitcase. That means I'll have an empty suitcase for the trip home. I gave DH fair warning that we could be in trouble if DD takes me to any fabric stores.
Well you cant carry an empty case home! LOL!! Fill that puppy up!!
If DD takes you to any fabric stores then you won't have to worry about that empty suitcase comming home. I am sure you can find "something" to fill it! Have fun.

I've been known to pack a suitcase inside a larger suitcase just for purchases while I'm traveling! Of course, that was before they started charging so much for the bags on the airplanes, though!
Go girl. Fill it to the brim!
I will be taking an empty suitcase to PA with me next month - will pack all my clothes in it and stick it inside a large one. if I fill it, good if I don't that also is good. I bet I fill it. LOL
I always travel that way - gifts going, shopping on the return!
Enjoy!
I'm in total agreement!

Don't you need that extra suitcase to put the fabric in you have to get to replace the fabric you used for DD quilt?
In these days of paying for heavy suitcases, I found UPS real good with prices. I send them a day before I get on the plane and beat them home.
Used to spend our winters in Ca. Always took an extra suitcase with the sole purpose of filling it full of fabric to take home. That was when all of these extra charges didn't exist. What fun in all of those shops.
Have fun!!!! ... and let us know what just "happened" to come home with you :)
Now that was a well planned thing to do. Stuff it to the brim!!!!!!! :D:D

I like your thinking!
I say fill the suitcase up. You have to pay for it, filled or unfilled, don't you?

You all are SO FUNNY....yeah, right, empty suitcase on the way home... LOL
The ELVIS QUILT -- Oh, I want to see... got any pics??? |
I've heard of people who bring their oldest rattiest clothes to wear on the trip then toss them out so they can bring back souvenirs. Fabric is considered a souvenir!
Whenever we travel, my husband puts a compacted travel bag in his suitcase for souvenirs, etc. With all the grandkids, kids, co-workers, etc that we usually buy for - even a little trickety kind of thing - the extra bag usually is full before we head home.
We do this when we go to Africa. Take huge duffels of thrift and bargain store clothes and requested items, plus photos and gifts from our friends to their families (diabetes test strips are a biggie) and we come home with scads of cookies, canned sardines, spices, traditional clothes, gifts, and photos. If you don't do this, it's like burning money if you are flying.
Enjoy!

Smart girl.........fill her up!!!
Disappointment! Turns out the quilt shop we were going to is closed. However, we're pretty close to K & L fabrics so there's still hope.
Have a great time with your daughter. Have done this same thing and my suitcase was hard to close on the way home. Hit a couple sales and you know how that goes.
Yes, we want to see pics of what you buy!
nell |
well, you do need something to fill suitcase with on way home right? lol
Have fun shopping!!

Unfortunately, with the weight restrictions now, it could get very costly to bring back a suitcase full of material, as it weighs a lot. But I would sure be bring some home anyway.
I think I read some where that returning home with an empty s/case is considered a misdemeanor and if caught doing it twice you could lose time in your sewing room So you fill that case til it takes a couple people to squash it closed
I agree, it would look suspicious if you are going through airline security. Fill it up.

Fill that suitcase up and think about shipping it home. Probably cheaper than paying the extra fees. UPS might even beat you home.
