Cute fabric for your sewing room! I did this many years ago when we first moved into our new home. Used some Uncle Sam fabric for one room, cardinals for another.

oksewglad 07-10-2011 05:12 PM

Very similar to covering s-plates with wallpaper. Thanks.

Susanna10 07-10-2011 05:27 PM

Thank you for sharing. That is cool

LindaM49 07-10-2011 05:42 PM

It's always good to get ideas! Gave myself the idea while doing this, to also do it for the holidays in other rooms of the house.

Very cute

Way back in 1962 I had a single room (about the size of a shoebox) in dorm at MSU. I made curtains for the window and covered the switch plate to match. About 12 years later I was working on campus and had the opportunity to check out my old room one summer. The flowered switchplate was still there!

You're welcome Debra.Sometimes I think I get all caught up in the big things and forget small things. And probably the only way that I remembered I wanted to do this. Is that it will be tying in with something else planned for my sewing room....

Country1 07-10-2011 09:58 PM

Is this safe? It looks cute, but scares me to have fab that close to wiring.

SherriB 07-10-2011 10:22 PM

I do that with scrapbooking paper. I just barely let it wrap over the edge. It doesn't come close to the wires that way. It is only touching the wall.

Psychomomquilter 07-11-2011 03:29 AM

nice! I will try one later.

so-sew 07-11-2011 03:49 AM

Now that is something I never thought of!

quilter in the making 07-11-2011 06:19 AM

Hmmmm, might have to do that today!

SNUGQUILT 07-11-2011 06:42 AM

LOVE that idea....I also saw a tute once on covering fan blades (ceiling fan)...I STILL want to try that one as well...only now I think I'll have matching switchplates and fan blades! Thanks for sharing! :)

mimee4 07-11-2011 07:57 AM

Great idea. Thank you so much!!

Greenheron 07-11-2011 07:59 AM

Love the idea! Thank you.

bri1977 07-11-2011 09:11 AM

I've done this with scrapbook paper, embellishments and Mod Podge. Very fun. Did a lampshade too :)

OraLee 07-11-2011 10:01 AM

Oh what a cute idea. I just finished redecorating my granddaughter room at her house as a suprise and I could use the material I used for her curtains on the light shitch. Thanks for the idea.

sahm4605 07-11-2011 10:13 AM

I would be worried about it being a fire hazard. but really really really cute idea.

deranged_damsel 07-11-2011 10:19 AM

CUTE!!! I decorated all of my outlet covers by hand painting them :D

sniktasemaj 07-11-2011 12:27 PM

What about brushing Mod Pog over the fabric when finished. Would be pretty and easy to clean.

KwiltyKahy 07-11-2011 01:48 PM

I've done ME switchplate covers for my granddaughter and don't know why I didn't think of mine. Thanks.

annette1952 07-11-2011 03:38 PM

Cute!

dorrell ann 07-11-2011 03:40 PM

Did some research on the internet and did find an article that said to use Mod Podge to make it washable. I would think that would help secure the fabric to make it less of a fire hazard. I also would think that the fabric should be trimmed back to just barely wrap over the edge of the plate to keep the fabric away from the wiring.

traveling2dals 07-11-2011 09:00 PM

I also did this several years ago, but I did modge podge on
my switch plate, worked great!

Carron 07-11-2011 09:09 PM

what do you do when they get dirty?

mimistutz 07-12-2011 04:30 AM

Thanks for posting. I really like this, never thought of it. Think I'll try it soon. Those designer plates are EXPENSIVE and probably it's easier to find fabric to personalize them. (certainly more choices)

Tinabug 07-12-2011 07:56 PM

I did this with fabric and I decoupaged it.

Dee 07-12-2011 08:39 PM

Cute idea. I wondered how that was done. Thanks for sharing.

After I cover this with fabric, I recover it with a clear vinyl and then I can wipe it off and not have to worry about it.
