If it is wool thread then it's pricey. If it is wooly nylon, toss it or give away.

Ok Onebyone, help me understand this, why would you toss it? I thought wooly nylon was a good thread to use for serging knits?

mjpEncinitas if you don't get any takers for the thread, I'll take it off your hands!

I agree that it looks like a needle punch tool, but the thread could also be used for crewel embroidery, a popular craft from the late 70s and 80s that is supposedly once again on the upswing.

It looked like crewel thread to me, but I have no idea what the tool would have been used for. I am a crewel embroiderer and glad to hear crewel embroidery on the upswing.

Defiantly not wooly nylon thread. I am sending you a private message.

Wooly nylon is highly elastic and soft, usually used in sergers for active wear knits like swimwear. It is an inexpensive thread so unless doing a lot of garment making or have a special use for it why keep it.

Makes me want to get my pretty punch back out of the drawer and make something new.

The thread and needle are for needle punch. This size is for an embroidery type of finished that is nice and full. I use to do this and am sure I still have both the rug, which is much larger, and the smaller tool and thread, like you are showing. It punches through the back side of your pattern and leave a perfect loop on the other side. There is a latex finish to lock the thread on the back side that is used for rugs and can be used on pieces of the smaller embroidery sizes.
