Crafters what is this thread used for?

My neighbor gave me a bunch of stuff since her quilter mom is going to a nursing home. What is this wool like thread used for? I’ve also included a picture of the tool that was in the box with it? Thanks

A couple things occur to me. With the inclusion of the crochet-like hook, it's possible that it was rug-hooking or some other fiber art that pokes and retrieves thread through a base fabric.
My friend who does tablet weaving also uses similar thread, but I'm not aware that she uses a hook thing and a tablet loom is pretty distinctive. |
looks like a needle punch tool...it is used to make pretty needle punch design....do a search for it and lots of info will come up good stuff.

I'm thinking it is something like needlepunch thread too -- I've tried some searches on the numbers on the spools but haven't gotten lucky with a brand or even match yet... but I'll keep trying.

Thanks! I put it up on the buy nothing Facebook page in my town. If I don’t get any takers do either of you do this craft? I’d be happy to send you the thread and needles.

I agree that it looks like a needle punch tool, but the thread could also be used for crewel embroidery, a popular craft from the late 70s and 80s that is supposedly once again on the upswing.

What does the label say on the yellow spool of thread?

Gosh .. to me it looks like a stitch ripper.
As for the yarn, I am thinking it's initial intent would be for weaving. |
It’s a Pretty Punch needle and the threads used for doing pretty punch ( needle punch embroidery) I used to do a lot of Pretty punch- had a friend who was a dealer/ supplier. If you look up ( Needle punch) you will find lots of information. Missie Carpenter offers lots of patterns
