Craftsy BOM

Have you seen craftsy BOM..it's so cool.

Havplenty 03-01-2012 09:37 AM

are youn working on them? i signed up to do them but havent had time to start yet. i know there are several people from this board that are working on them. perhaps you can link up with them. search the board and see if you can find the previous thread. good luck.

mcorona 03-01-2012 09:54 AM

Oh... I havent yet. :(

nyelphaba 03-01-2012 10:04 AM

I am doing the Craftsy BOM. It is fun.

GrandmaSewNSew 03-01-2012 11:32 AM

This would be a great place to talk about the BOM project as the Craftsy website is difficult to use as a message board as your remarks are listed only in the section you're in when you post.

scrapngmom 03-01-2012 11:35 AM

I have watched the videos but haven't started on my blocks. I hope do start "one of these days." LOL

GrandmaSewNSew 03-01-2012 11:39 AM

I've done the first two months. For the February blocks you have to be very careful to use a scant 1/4 inch or things will not work out! I'm waiting to hear more about this month's block as someone commented that it looks like you have no seam allowance on the second block and in the video she first says 1/2 then says 1/4 and the written example makes no mention of this. I did find this link that might be helpful. I has different measurements for a different sized block but says 1/4... http://alamodefabric.blogspot.com/20...-tutorial.html

I wondered about the 1/2" vs 1/4" she used. I don't have time until tomorrow to check it out though.

ncredbird 03-01-2012 03:37 PM

I went and checked them out. They are cute but I can't find any patterns for any of the previous ones. Is it one of those sites where they are pulled once the new patterns come out? Ann in TN

AshleyR 03-01-2012 03:40 PM

I watched the first month but that's as far as I got!!!

#1piecemaker 03-01-2012 03:50 PM

I signed up but haven't even started any yet.

TexasSunshine 03-01-2012 06:04 PM

I have finished the first 4. The first 2 were very easy and had good instructions. The second 2 were different and I had to modify them a tad to get them to come out right. I have really enjoyed them. I need to check the ones for March but have not had time. You can access the previous blocks any time you want to.

The way I understand it is that once you sign up for the class you will always have access to the videos and patterns. Just click on the month that you want to see.

chislett 03-01-2012 06:08 PM

This is a really nice block of the month. I just finished the string quilt block for March, will do the web one tomorrow. In my previous blocks I didn't use a scant 1/4 inch so my blocks are slightly smaller. I am hoping this won't cause to much of a problem in the end.

Krisb 03-01-2012 07:01 PM

Ann, you do need to sign up for the class but it's free.

GrandmaSewNSew 03-01-2012 07:13 PM

Chislett,
There was some talk on the site about Amy saying that you need to add 1/2 inch to the line she was going to draw for the second block and then she said and seemed to do 1/4 inch. Did you use the 1/4 inch and does your second string block have a 1/4 inch seam around the background points so they won't be lost when you sew it to another block? I've been waiting to learn the answer to this before doing the block. Thank you.

March Blocks for Craftsy

Here are my blocks...the string ones are the March blocks... I do recomend that you use a scant 1/4" seam when joining the units and a consistant 1/4" in the unit construction. You may gues I am using a blue/yellow theme...
Hope you have a super weekend.

I am doing these, too. This month's is very similar to the simple lap quilts we make to take to shut-ins, veteran's hospital, etc. Easy, and no right or wrong. :)

Scraps 03-02-2012 11:11 AM

Yesterday, I watched the first class. I have a lot of company coming in March, but I have lots of sewing time spring and summer so I hope to do them then. My brain works better with visual lessons :-) AND I love FREE lessons :-)

Cuddly Quilter 03-02-2012 11:23 AM

tHANKS very much for this tip. Pity i have already done my block. Looks like i am going to have to RE SEW the centre joining pieces to narrow the block a bit. Was fun making though.

Here are my January, February and March blocks. I am really having fun making these. My eldest daughter wants me to turn this into a wall hanging for her.

franc36 03-02-2012 01:29 PM

I so enjoyed seeing the pictures of the completed blocks. They are beautiful! I am not at all original. I am using the same fabric as the instructor. Because I am in the middle of a quilt I am trying to complete, I haven't started on the March blocks. I have watched the video and printed the instructions. I am excited about the March blocks and can't wait to make them. I have never made that type of block before. The thing I most enjoy about this BOM is that I am learning so many new skills. As for the instructor saying "1/2 inch" ,that was obviously a mistake. She meant to say "1/4 inch".

I love the pictures of the completed blocks and now wish I'd stuck with a theme. I saw this as a chance to use some fabrics I bought just because I couldn't resist the price! Not sure if I want to do the string blocks yet as a result of this. I would like to use more of the fabrics I'll actually use from the group I selected for the quilt. I can't believe we'll use all the fabric required for this quilt unless we use the left overs to make a scrappy back. Here's the two blocks I've completed and my fabrics. The background is Kona snow even thought it looks darker.
Any suggestions for the string blocks or should I just wait to do them?

Ruby the Quilter 03-02-2012 06:48 PM

I have the first 2 months finished and printed off the March patterns. Think it will be a pretty quilt.

grma33 03-03-2012 04:18 AM

i have them all done in xmas except last
will post a pictuer later i did a very scant 1/4 on the march 1st one as i found the foundation shrunk a little after sewing the strips
i`m very confused about starting the sec one as you`ve all said in your thread about 1/4 and 1/2 are you talking about seaming?
when you draw your line from the 1/4 up from the bottom middle and draw your line to the 7 inch do you move your ruler a 1/4 inch?clear as mud for me hope someone can answer
i too love this bom as learning new things
Thanks Gale

grma33 03-03-2012 04:38 AM

It is free to sign up, but then you have to pay to see the videos. I started watching the first one, and it cut off just when she got to the important part. I kinda felt like it was false advertising. Not interested in paying to watch something on my own computer.

nhweaver 03-03-2012 04:56 AM

I have finished jan and feb. Didn't have trouble with Feb at all. I haven't seen March yet, hope to get to it next week. Maybe we should start a topic thread.

FLQ 03-03-2012 05:16 AM

I found the first and second block links but I have signed up and I think they are not available unless you sign into the BOM web area. I believe the sign up is still available.

GrandmaSewNSew 03-03-2012 06:36 AM

This class is free! You need to sign up for this class. I haven't paid anything for it. You can watch the videos, participate in the class discussions all for free just as if you had paid. It's their other classes that you have to pay for.

I signed up for it and it looks like fun. I haven't made my blocks yet but I think this would be a fun project.

GrandmaSewNSew 03-03-2012 06:39 AM

Gale,
I found these tutorials that may help. The first one has music.

Thanks for that info, but I couldn't seem to get the classes to run the full length. I tried several times and finally gave up. I saw that the others you had to pay for, so I deleted the site.

Ok. Now I'm confused. I have done the January blocks and they went together nicely, except for a little puckering. Are you all saying the Feb. and March blocks need to be pieced with scant 1/4" seams on all the seams? Also, please refresh my memory on what a scant 1/4" seam is. Thanks.
