Craftsy Classes?
Craftsy has a special for their online classes at $15.00. I'm wondering if any of you have used them and if so any recommendations?
|
I'm taking the block of the month class that was free a while back & they are teaching us lots of different techniques which is fun. You have video tutorials for the visual quilters and they also have printable instructions for each block. I think the class is great, but I'm not a fan of the pattern for this one. I've seen others I probably would have liked better. All in all, I've had a very positive experience and if you get hung up ask questions and the teacher will answer you. Very interactive!! Good luck and have fun!

I am a new quilter and have never really used my sewing machine much. I have signed up for the BOM and Chocolate classes, just because they were free! I haven't made a block or a truffle yet! But that's not really where my interests lie... I started the Sewing Studio with Diana Rupp but haven't really started the course yet. I really have so much to learn... Project Upcycle with Betz White was something I thought I'd be interested in, but once I started, it wasn't for me at all, so I asked for a refund and it was credited back to my debit card in a few days. You do have to cancel in the first 30 days for the refund, but they were very nice about it.
The first class I took was Machine Quilting with Wendy Butler Berns and I learned so much! I figured I wasn't ever going to take a class at a store, so this was a better option. Then I took Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine and Beyond Basic Machine Quilting with Ann Petersen. The first one is a great beginner course and the second one is more advanced. Too advanced for me right now, but it's amazing. All the instructors are very good, they don't talk to you like a second-grader or talk over your head. If you have a question or comment, they respond within the next day or so. They explain why they are going to do something and how to do it then they do it and the camera is right there. My only complaints would be that you have to watch the price of something you want and wait for it to get in your budget and that you can't use the full version on the mobile device. I enjoy reading other comments and suggestions too. You can also take notes during the class and the video stops while you're typing. Then when you refer back to that note, you can watch that part of the course. Oh, and another complaint: my speakers aren't the best, and I wish they had a transcript or dubbing or something like that. I recommend that you try one of them and if you don't like it, they will give you a refund or another course for free. |
I saw that offer, too, and immediately ordered two more classes. I LOVE the Craftsy classes because I live in a very rural area and cannot get to quilt shops for classes. I've done the two Jenny Doan classes, enjoyed them, and go back to them from time to time to remember a project I saw and want to do now (the nice part about having access forever). Do at least sign up for the free BOM class and check out the other quilting classes. (I'm also taking the machine quilting and paper piecing ones.

Thanks for starting this thread. I,m considering taking a class of theirs.
|
Where is this offer? Do you need a coupon code?
|
Thanks for this information. I might try one now. I would rather do this at home than haul all my "stuff" somewhere else to do it. Also, when I go to the LQS for a class, I always buy more fabric! I need to stay out of the quilt shop.
|
Go to Craftsy.com.....all classes are $14.99, regular $59.99 I believe....the offer expires midnight this Saturday....no coupon needed
|
I took the "Quilting Big Projects on a Small Machine" class with Ann Peterson. I LOVED it! The best thing is, once you pay for the class, it's yours to keep and view forever. You can go back and watch all of it or part of it whenever you like. You can ask questions and see other quilters' questions and the answers they received. You can take notes and add bookmarks. I think this is a wonderful resource and I think the prices are very fair considering you own the class after purchase. I plan to get the Beyond Basic Machine Quilting next. I highly recommend these Craftsy classes.

I am a Craftsy member but didn't get the email. When I sign in, I don't see anything about a sale, and the class prices are still showing from 29.99 - 59.99. I would really like to take a few of thes classes-- particularly the quilting on a small machine.
Anyone have a link or help to offer on getting the sale price? Thanks! |

I received the email so had a direct link. To help JamieQ and Mama02011, I typed craftsy.com into the address bar and my computer automatically signs me in to the site. So, I tried my husband's computer, logged in and the site does NOT show the sale prices. I tried several times with no luck even though the site recognized me as being signed in. I didn't see a "Contact Us" link on the site but the email I received listed this phone number. Maybe you can get help by calling, especially since you are members of Craftsy. Good luck! If you go to archives and scroll down the links and resources section, there are several posts and links for the 14.99 classes. Hurry, I think it's only good thru Saturday.

Well, I emailed Craftsy's customer service and got this response:
Thanks so much for your interest in Craftsy! Unfortunately the offer your friend received/you saw posted on the blog was an extremely limited offer we sent out only to members who had been with us for a while who hadn't yet enrolled in a course to let them have the chance to experience a Craftsy course for an extremely low discount. This offer expires in a week and only applies for them. They sent me a code for One class at $25. I'm now a LOT less interested in taking a class from them than I was before! |
I'm doing the free bom. Good information. Haven't bought one yet but think they would be good.
|
I got that same exact email JamieQ! Fortunately, I had already utilized the archive link here and gotten my 2 classes. So the joke, I guess, is on them!
|
I love the Craftsy classes! I like the fact that I can view the lessons as often as I need to. While I don't particularly like the blocks that we have made in the free Block of the Month classes, I have learned so much from making the blocks. I would never have tried English paper piecing; but a after making this month's blocks, I really like that technique. I sign up for the classes when they are on sale and I really think they are worth it for me.

Am I the only one who thinks telling potential customers outright that they have somewhat arbitrarily been excluded from a special offer is dreadful PR? If I were in their shoes, I would just send the link to the few people who bothered to Iinquire and increase my sales instead of risking I'll feelings. So some people woul pay $15 instead of $59- they'd probably sign up for classes they would otherwise have passed on. I will probably direct my business elsewhere now. |
A friend of mine forwarded her email on to me, and I bought the machine quilting class. It looks great...
|
I just took the Stupendous Stitching class and really enjoyed it. I love that the class is mine forever. Having both the written word and the video makes learning so much easier. My only advice to Craftsy would be to quit changing the prices...just set a price and stick to it. I find myself waiting for the price to come down from 59.95 to 29.95 then forget to check and miss it. Now they have upset some with the selective offer.
|
Apparently they didn't fix the loophole too well.......I just purchased 2 classes following the link posted on 04/04. I had tgo buy one, then go back to the link & buy the other one. Yea!!
|
I have used a few, like Jenny Doan's. I found them quite useful for beginners etc.
They are a great reference to go and her methods are quite easy to follow. Just my opinion. |
I took Pepper Cory's class on string quilts. I think she called it "Waste not. Want not." It is a very good class, due to Pepper's good teaching. ( I have had two other classes with her at John Campbell Folk School.)

craftsy classes
yes I have taken 2 classes and they have been great
|
I love the Craftsy classes--I'm signed up for most of the quilting ones. The instructors are quick to answer questions and always encouraging.
|
I am taking a few classes from craftsy.com and love them. Even if they say they are a certain amount, you can email them and tell them you want to take a certain class but can't afford the price and they'll reduce it to $15.00. I love their classes. I, too, am taking the free class. This month's block isn't my thing. I changed it up a bit. Made it an applique since I'm not crazy about hand quilting. You can still take the free class...just start with January and go from there to April. See if you like it. Once you belong, you have access to the classes forever.

Valerie Ann, I signed up for the Quilt Quickly & Quilt Quickly 2 classes.
|
I love the craftsy classes. The free motion classes have helped me a great deal. I guess I better head over and get another. Thanks for letting us know.
|
Love them, NOT boring, well done and I even learned a LOT!! Have 4 of the classes and will sign up for more. DO IT!! I promise you won't be disappointed.

I, also have signed up for the Quilt Quickly and Quilt Quickly 2 classes..have not completed them, but I have looked them over. They appear to be very informational and interesting. I have one or two other classes also. I paid $25 for each, and did happen to "stumble" onto a $15 class..can't beat that! The offers I do have were posted on Facebook. I get the Craftsy e-mail and like to consider all of them..cheaper is definitely better!

I'm currently in the BOM free class with Amy Gibson. Love it! Been considering one of their $15 specials too. Not sure if I have the time right now to concentrate on it with gardening season coming on, but maybe next fall/winter if they have the special again.

I'm taking the machine quilting class with Ann Peterson and she's great. It would nice to be in an actual class but with the videos and class materials, it's great for me. You can watch the videos when it's convenient for you and of course, as many times as you wish. In Ann's class, she goes through each step very thoroughly and it's very understandable. Try one!
