I know it is only Sept. but with the weather turning chilly here i am contemplating the upcoming Holiday season. I usually start pick up little things for the Gkids for Christmas. Are you guys starting to do Holiday projects already? Or is it just me that is thinking Christmas quilts, placemats, decorations?

Oh, yes, I'm start thinking of Christmas really early, but then time seems to get away from me, and I'm lucky if I get one hand-crafted item made for a gift.... Christmas is a very busy time for me-from about November 1st through the end of the year - I'm secretary & organist for our church, and Thanksgiving through Christmas - just practicing all the music (and picking it all out first) is a full-time job! So, much as I'd like to give lots of quilted or crafted gifts, I usually have great intentions, but almost never get it done...

I'm working on mine already. Already panicking, too. :P

My goal - a flannel quilt for each (8) grandchild, a sweet roll felt ornament for each grandchild, Christmas stockings for a SIL and grandchild, a purse for DD. I think I am overly optimistic, but I'll do what I can.

KatFish 09-11-2011 05:35 PM

I've started my holiday gifts already. I hate to be rushed to finish things.

Scakes 09-11-2011 05:37 PM

I've already started and finished a couple of bags for Christmas gifts. Have pulled fabrics for 2 lap size quilts that I need to start on next. The holidays usually get here quickly or so it seems to me. Not like when I was a kid.

I have made 2 twin size quilts, matching Christmas Stockings for hubbys niece and nephew, And 3 queen size quilts. I just need to put binding on them.

dltaylor 09-11-2011 05:53 PM

Bought my DGD's presents this summer when I found a fantastic clearance sale at Walmart. Barbie doll sets for 3 and 4.00, and lots of other things very cheap, could not pass it up. I even got a teddy that plays music for my youngest, she is 6 months and it was only 5.00. But, the adults I haven't gotten anything for. I keep saying I will make those gifts but am getting ready for craft show in Oct. so all quilting is for that. Think I'll gift them the things that don't sell. LOL

I am starting some as well. However, these are for my son. One is going for his bed and the other will be for couch to snuggle under while watching christmas shows. :)

I'm making 5 matching potholders, one for each of the the ladies in my DH's office. The potholders are all sawtooth stars with a heart print in the middle and they've come up well so far. I've done three and am half way through the remaining two.

I just happen to have a photo :-)

I have an over abundance of jelly rolls and have started making Jelly Roll Race quilt tops. They tops complete in a couple of hours and are a managable size for machine quilting on my regular sewing machine, and, a lot of fun to make. I think they will make great Christmas presents this year

I have never heard of this pattern, what does it look like?

lynnegreen 09-12-2011 06:18 AM

First, here is a you tube link to see them being made:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EomX7t7to_o

Using one jelly roll you randomly sew all the strips together. They are attached end to end with a diagonal seam. This results in a strip about 1600 inches (!) long. You cut off 18 inches from one end. Take the two ends, rights sides together, and make one seam down one side of what now is 800 inches, cutting the bottom. Then you brings ends together again, right sides together and sew one side, cutting the bottom. You do this until you go from a 1600 inch strip to a 48X64 top. The pattern is really neat, and the you tube link shows several completed tops. It is taking me about an hour to sew the initial strips end to end then about another hour to sew all the seams.

I have a little satin jewelry bag that is just a couple circles with a drawstring closure. It's too small for my use, but it's on my list of things to try to improve upon. Pics later------maybe!

Yes, have already made table runners for office and aprons for 2 darling little girls on our Christmas list. Going to begin working on 5 christmas totes that I want to complete. It will be here before we know it.

Kath12 09-12-2011 11:16 AM

I went to the Quilt Expo in Madison,WI yesterday and picked up a couple of quick patterns for XMas gifts. I can't wait to get started but I have to wait until after this Weekend. We are having our guild's quilt show which I am in charge of Demonstrations, Decorations and a Raffle basket. I am in charge of the raffle quilt too but my job is done on that one (I designed it and made sure it was completed).

GagaSmith 09-12-2011 12:35 PM

I'm selling items in a craft show so I have a lot of Christmas things made. I'm not making much for family this year, but I'm about half way done with my shopping for grands and kids.
