Me too. Mostly work on them in the winter. DH is gone 2-3 evenings a week with meetings. I sit with a cup a tea and the woodstove. My Ott light made a huge difference for me. Plus new tri-focals.

I use to cross stitch until the arthritis took over. I love doing candlewicking now. I made Christmas Tree decorations the beginning of this year for this coming Christmas. I enjoy sitting on the front porch doing them. It helps me feel cool when the weather is hot.

I do counted cross stitch and love it! My DIL got me hooked on it about 25 years ago when she was dating my son. Have been doing it for years. I find it very relaxing. Now that I have tendonitis in my shoulders and elbows which limits my knitting and crocheting, I find the the cross stitch does not bother me.

Hello, I have made a couple quilts, that I used a cross stitch project square for the center of the quilt. It turned out pretty good. :) Marcine

I love to cross stitch. I have been doing it for a lot longer than I have been quilting. Attached is a picture of one of my favourites that I quilted a frame on, and quilted the picture as well. As you can see, the subject is one dear to my heart, quilting!

That is beautiful. It's a work of art.

earthwalker 07-30-2009 07:31 PM

I used to do counted cross-stitch, but haven't picked it up for many years. These days for relaxation and "therapy" I prefer to quilt or embroider. I do admire the beautiful work dedicated cross-stitchers create, very delicate and subtle.

I like to cross stitch, and am currently cross stitching a baby blanket for my grandbaby that is due originally New Years eve, but they are going to take the baby C-section on the 22nd, so we will have a Xmas present early. But I have found I like the pre-printed ones better now then the others, I don't see the holes as well as I use to.

catjo 07-31-2009 07:09 AM

I will sure do that. I am only about 1/2-3/4 the way finished with it. I pick it up here and there to work on. I have been trying to work in Xmas present making too. I just finished 2 pillow quilts this week, 1 for my brother in law for Xmas and my sisters 60th b-day is this coming month and we are having a surprise party for her this Sat and I picked her some material out Sunday and finished it day before yesterday. I have another one to sew for my sister in law for Xmas, it is cut out, now I just need to sew it, thought about it today, but being lazy. But I need to work in this baby blanket more, I found a baby pillow case that is similar to the blanket that I want to cross stitch too if I can get the blanket done, if not it will be a late present. I will be sure and post the blanket picture for you though when it does finally get finished.

Bevanger 07-31-2009 07:10 AM

Both the angels are Lavender and lace. I have done those too. I love her work and have completed about 17 or 18 of them on linen. I have only framed about 14. They are not cheap to frame!!

You got that right they are very expensive to frame. I did four more two for each of my daughters. Really enjoyed making them alot. I did a couple on linen but it was real hard on eyes even with magnifier glass so I prefer to do them on adia.

crkathleen 07-31-2009 08:29 PM

Ladies, those are beautiful!

Whats adia?

EagarBeez 08-01-2009 12:18 PM

Count me in. I do cross stitching and love it. I finished an English country side picture. Just need a frame. I am also working on a bald eagle and the american background. It is a counted cross stitch, so it is taking LOOOOONG!! I have put that on the back burner for now and am busy making a queen sized american/americana quilt with the 7 virtues of the army embroidered on the top.
I have 4 more quilts including the one I mentioned. So when I get tired of quilts (which happens from time to time). I get quilt fatique. Then I switch to cross stitching or one of the many other crafts I enjoy doing.
Smile

Bevanger 08-01-2009 03:48 PM

Bevanger 08-02-2009 03:24 AM

Oh neat, I can't wait to see it. Its so neat all the things you can do with Cross stitch.

butterflyquilter 08-02-2009 07:32 PM

I cross-stitch, too. Just not as much as I would like to--quilting comes first!

fabuchicki 08-02-2009 08:43 PM

I do! I think it's relaxing.

Connie1948 08-03-2009 07:23 AM

I do a lot of cross stitch. It came many years before quilting. It is very portable! Goes everywhere with me.

Susie T 08-03-2009 07:30 AM

The quilt in my Author box is a 3 year project with (23) 8" cross stitched Tigger, Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore blocks. It was great fun and a labor of love for my first grandaughter, Emma, who is now 4.

I've done a lot of samplers for births and marriages which are inexpensive to make but extremely costly to custom frame.

A great way to spend your TV time and an easy travel project!

Texas Quilter 08-06-2009 08:27 PM

I love to cross stitch! I have done a small wall hanging quilt with cross stitch, but usually I don't mix the two. :)

ginnie6 08-07-2009 04:12 AM

I used to cross stitch all the time. I made my mil a set of hummingbirds once on linen. I've got several pieces hanging up that I made and I would make wedding announcements whenever anyone we knew got married. I've got tons of floss and patterns still. I just can't get as into it as I used to. Maybe though soon I'll finish the little picture of a wolf I started on for my son.....he keeps asking where it is.

PerfectlyCreative 08-07-2009 04:21 AM

I do it ... but with a LOT of cursing! I like the end result, but not necessarily the process. Of course, this doesn't stop me from doing them! I have been trying to figure out a pattern for Classic Pooh to make a birth "announcement" (i guess I can call it that) for my friend's baby

Crossstitcher 06-01-2010 03:45 PM

I love to cross stitch. Have been doing it for years. I have made everyone in my family a picture or two. I now do pictures and enter them in our state fair. So far have done pretty good. The picture on the side is a quilt I made that took about 15 years. Its all cross stitched victorian shops. Of course there's a qulting shop in there. I worked on it off and on. Now I sew during the day when I can and stitch at night.

Suzanne57 06-01-2010 07:29 PM

I've got a Xstitch WIP, a pair of knitted socks WIP and 3 quilt WIPs now. I started cross stitching a long time ago and the urge just comes and goes. I have a hard time framing them after the stitching is done. Most of the time, it's just I have worked on them so long that I don't want to look at them anymore. Some day I'll get around and frame them.

craftybear 06-01-2010 07:46 PM

I haven't cross stitch for a long time, but did use the cross stitch stitch on some rug canvas and made a cute trivet from scraps of fabric

you can also make rugs, fun

CarrieAnne 06-02-2010 03:42 AM

I love cross stitch, but now its hard on the eyes, so I would rather do embrodery!
