Yes you can. You can buy any transfers (Aunt Martha) and transfer them onto white or natural muslin - I always cut them for a finished 12" block. I made many quilts like that. Not for counted cross stitch though (You need Aida cloth for that). My sister and I started quilting using Aunt Martha and she then went into starting at point A and just going where the needle led her. Then she embellished the blocks with buttons, ribbon, rick-rack, lace, beads. She does gorgeous work, Now she is doing a crazy quilt with my snippets that I give her and she embellishes them. I always use masking tape to do the edges of the squares to keep them from raveling and it just keeps it neater to work with. Happy embroidery/quilting. Edie

I just appliqued the cross stitches to the top after it was quilted.

I would but I don't know how to cross-stitich.

Before my mother passed away she crossed stitched a large quilt top of beautiful purple iris. She never had it quilted. I took the quilt top and tore apart the blocks, they were 18 in square, and found some beautiful iris fabric to match. I have cut the blocks down and framed each one with coordinating fabric and used the iris fabric in the corners of each block and then backed it with the iris fabric. I am giving it to my nephew for a wedding present. It will be a gift from his grandmother and aunt. I think he will appreciate it.
