Does anyone have JoAnn's sew Essentials, cutting table? How do you like it or what have you heard about it? I am thinking of getting one but would like to know if it is worth the money! I do have a 50% coupon I can use on it, I think!
I don't have that table but it is on sale right now for $69.99 so you can't use your coupon. A lot of members have made their own. Mine is made out of a hollow core door. I like it because it's bigger. I have room to set things to the side without it being in the way when I cut. I also made my own irioning board almost as big as the table. It leans against the wall on the table so when I need to press all I have to do is lay it down. When I need to cut I lean it back against the wall.

Oh to have the space!!!! |
I have one of their tables, got it about 5 years ago and it is priceless to me. Simple to put it together, and it folds down when not in use. When I have a big family gathering, I cover it and use as our buffet table for food.
It is sturdy. I can't speak for the ones that are made today but to have a nice table is a great asset to have. |
I've had mine for years and the best feature is that you can fold it down. And I also use it as a buffet table - multi-use - you can't beat that.
I have one too and love it. It can be a little wobbly if you aren't careful, but I'm not trading it for anything!
You might want to do a search here on the board. I seem to remember a thread recently discussing these tables and saying the ones for sale now are not a sturdy as the ones from 5 - 6 years ago. Of course, if Joann's has a good return policy you could always buy one and take it back if it seems shoddy.

My DH bought me one for my birthday and I absolutely love it!!
Mine is in the living room behind the couch folded down and when I need it I roll it out into the middle of the living room, use it, drop the sides and roll it back. Makes living in 945 sq ft a lot easier for a quilter!

Good Afternoon Every1,
I have the JoAnns cutting table. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!!! I only have half of it displayed, but it works cuz my sewing room is a little small, if I had the whole table opened all the way. I have my scrap bin caddy underneath it, along with some items that you can not see in the sewing room picture. My cutting table is underneath a really big window in room. I still have to make curtains for the window.  Have a blessed day. debra Behind the scrap bin holder is a baby gate (keep 4 yr old out), manual laundry rack, trash can and the Sew Steady Tables (1 for computerized sewing machine & one for my Brother 1034D Serger). I have had mine for about 10 years and love it. I use it all the time. I also got the full size cutting mat to go over it.

I have one with the large cutting mat. Have had it for 5-6years. I love it and use it all the time--really saves the back. I also use mine for a buffet table during family gatherings.

I have 2 of them. One for my cutting table. I use it the same way cny_sewer39 uses her. The second one a friend is making a "big board" for it so I can use it, with both sides down, as my ironing table. Neat thing is that I can roll one or both out to my backyard or garage, open them all the way & do my basting on a nice large surface.
I have had mine for 10 years. It is wonderful. I'm sure you will enjoy having the table space and to have it store in such a small area is a nice plus.
I love mine and use it all the time. With both sides up I can hardly walk around it - but for large stuff it's wonderful. At Christmas it is great as gift wrap table.
some times I've seen them on Craig's List

I have one and love it!

I forgot to add that at another sale, I got the ironing board/measuring cover for it and that makes it even more useful. I'm looking for a good office type chair so I can sit and iron big pieces without having to keep moving it around a teeny-tiny ironing board. I might also add, mine is one of the older tables and at least one person on one of the other threads got a real lemon, so if you so buy it, I'd suggest opening the carton at the store and making sure that all the pieces are there and in good shape.

I purchased one several years ago and didn't like because it was so unstable. It was better after I supported it in the corner of two walls. If I had my druthers I would purchase an old island kitchen cabinet (which is tall) at a thrift shop...plus you will have more storage which I can always use.

Bought on about 10 years ago and it is still in excellent shape. I use it every day. Store easy if you want to put the sides down and it is about 12 inches wide then. Couldn't live without it.
Have a Blessed day. Ellen |

I bought one the last time they were on sale and took it back. The one I got, was terrible. Had a couple of bad nicks and didn't line up at all. I probably just got a bad one, so for the price, I guess try it. I am also "vertically challenged", so found it waaaaay too high for me. LOL. Good luck
I looked at Hancock's and JoAnn's I thought they were unstable. I elected to use an fold in half table at Walmart $34 and the bed risers $8 to get the height. That way I can easily take it down if I just wanted to use the table as a table somewhere else. I can store under it also.
There are also the adjustable tables 19" 25" 29". They are not as wide as the fold in half that don't adjust. |
I bought one about 6 wks ago. It took hubby 2 1/2 hrs to put together. Then I didn't like it. It was wobbly, some of the screw holes didn't match--made in China!! I took it back all assembled. It was still in the shop last time I was in. DH went to Lowe's & bought a 5 tier shelf & put together only 3 tiers. It was very study and gave me 2 shelves for storage, for the same $70. plus he will have 2 shelves to use.
My sister has one and says she can't quilt without it. I would LOVE to have one but live in a 5th wheel and I do well to have room for a small frame.
My Mom bought me one for Christmas about seven years ago. It is a good table but it is heavy. It took my Mom and me to wrestle it into and out of the car just to drag it into the house...yes, I said drag and not carry...mine was that heavy!

I'm in the process of planning out my new sewing room. I was considering one of these, but my dh suggested that I look on Craig's list instead and see if anyone is remodeling their kitchen and has cabinets they are getting rid of. He could then put them in my new room, with a top on them. They would not only be the right height for me, but also have ample storage.

I have had this table for about 2 years. It is okay. It is not as stable as I had hoped, but I really like that both sides can be up or down depending on need. I still like the island in my kitchen best. But the table is in my sewing room upstairs & it is not always convenient to come downstairs to cut.
I`m having back problems with the kitchen table (old one) that I have in my sewing room, so trying to save money, I`m going to get bed risers and hope it works. This table is not used for any thing but sewing.
I have one for at least 6 years, folds easy great for pinning quilts and drape a quilt over when not in use also serving table of family go for it
I have two of them. I also got the ironing cover for one and that is handy for pressing big pieces. Thank goodness for 50% off coupons. One of my bestest buys
I have had mine for 8 - 9 years. Love it. Never drop the sides. I have the cutting mat that goes with it. I have also seen it with an ironing cover on it at a LQS.
I have 2 of the tables from Joann's the older one I have is not a stable and the newer on. The legs that hold the ends up is better on the newer one.
Same here!!! I love this table, My DH put it together for me... I helped and It was easier than I thought... a few of the pre- prepped holes were a bit off, but it is great to have... great Idea for the buffet for a group!!
I am on my second one. First one, husband ruined by leaving it out in the rain. Wouldn't be without. Love it and it is well worth every penny you have to pay. Go get it and enjoy!!!!! Make cutting a lot easier. Used to use it for my embroidery machine as well. Worked really well.

Yup, I have had mine for over 10 years. I might have even purchased it when it was about $60 on sale for $30.
Anyway, I have even used it as a spare buffet table when have large amounts of guests in my home. Currently, have mine set up with only one side up in our second hallway. Some caution here though... on carpet the table legs stay where you put them. However, on hardwood type floors, one can easily bump an extention leg enough times to push it in far enough that the top begins to lean or drop. Ask me how I know! You only have to experience this once or twice and you get the hang of not doing it. Great concept and very useful. Too bad the price has gone up so high. |
