I cut as I go and check for any I missed when I press.

I cut as I go, but don't really have that many to trim because I tend to chain piece as much as I can. It saves thread and time.

Sierra,
I was referring to all the threads on the back on the pieced quilt before it is quilted. Loose threads come from the sides of the pieces of material. |
I trim the threads as I go before pressing the blocks.

I also cut as I go. Learned the hard way once when knitting a granny square quilt that you (IMO) should cut or tuck stray threads or yarn pieces as you go. Seemed like there were thousands of them. Never did tuck those stray yarn ends in. Daughter asked for quilt and said she would do it. I was glad to grt rid of that tedious job.

I'm wishy washy.....depends on my mood.

I cut the strings as I go along. I know that not everyone does. I sent a quilt off to an LAQ on the board and paid more than I normally do and there were many loose threads on the quilt when I got it back. I was fine with the quilting but not the loose threads. I think it is easier to do as you go along rather than all at once. Mine was a King Size quilt and it took quite a while to cut all the threads. I guess it is up to the one doing the work.

I like things to be neat, so I clip threads as I go. When making the top this is not difficult because I chain piece to save thread and all that clipped bunch of threads. When I do the quilting I always start by pulling up the bobbin thread. I always tie knots and bury the threads after threading them through a needle. When I stop a line of stitching I immediately pull that thread to the back and bury it. Thus, some threads get buried to the front along seam lines and some are buried from the back along the quilting lines. Doing this task as I go along keeps me sane and undaunted!
