I don't bother with the threads unless I'm using white fabric then I cut every one. Once layered the threads are of no importance, if there are not. I do most of my machine quilting and never had a problem leaving the threads on the back of the quilt top.

I would say I cut as I go, but then where do all the loolse threads come from on the back when I'm ready to sandwich? I think, no matter not diligent I think I am being, the more a top is handled, the more the little boogers unravel and make a mess back there.

I also cut as I go along. I've tried to leave them, but it bothered me too much!

Always cut as I go along.

I, and I teach my pupils to do the same, clip the threads as I go, the reason is that the "tails" can catch up in your sewing and your feet and bobbin, in other words they are a pain and get in the way, clip as you go along.
Of course you always do a thorough check when you have finished for the odd ones that got away :) |
I'm with BellaBoo. Most of the time I have lots of stragglers on the back. But then I know I cut some because they are all over my clothes and sofa and carpet and dog.......
