I also would like to see that recipe! Thanks...

It is my opinion that the higher priced fabrics are the ones that have the most bleeding. I mostly buy mid range priced fabrics. I always use two or three color catchers and reuse them for a long time. How many I use depends on the size of the quilt. I use any detergent as I figure when given away, they will not get any special treatment. I will try the blue concentrated dawn for my regular laundry, to remove greasy dirt.
Thanks for posting all this helpful information. |
I too would like to see the Amish recipe.

Don't use Dawn if you have a newer machine requiring the he laundry detergents. I put a drop on one small spot of grease on a shirt...it took multiple washes/rinses/spins to get all the suds out. Could've tried vinegar to cut the suds, but didn't think of it at the time.

I use "blue" Dawn in the machine with my quilts. Remember you are only using a very small amount, it will rinse out just fine.

I wash my hands all the time with blue Dawn. It only takes a drop to remove all kinds of dirt and grease, and the lather from a little drop does not take long to rinse off. I bathe the dog with it. And, yes, I wash dishes with it. I think I'll try it in the laundry room. DH always seems to have a new shirt on when he starts a really dirty job!

they recommend the blue to discourage fleas in pets...she got them anyway LOL It does kill them when you give them a bath but still need flea stuff from vet LOL

Do not know about using it for fading but thank you for the info. on stain removal.
|
I washed my latest quilt in Dawn after reading the same Pinterest pin. I only used about 1 tbsp soap and it washed up beautifully. I really liked how the fabric looked like it was right off the bolt - not faded at all, but softer to the touch. I will continue to wash my quilts in Dawn. I was extremely pleased with the results.

Also, if you mix 1 tbsp Dawn with 2 tbsp hydrogen peroxide and 1 tsp baking soda, you can remove almost every stain on fabric - blood, grease, cow poo, oil, baby stains, etc. It is far better than any other stain remover.
