I could be totally wrong, but it sounds like you are making the individual strips to do the bargello pattern. I will try to show what I mean, but I had trouble taking pics.
Does your strip look like this? [ATTACH=CONFIG]124232[/ATTACH] Sew the two ends together. [ATTACH=CONFIG]124233[/ATTACH] Then separate where they they tell you to. [ATTACH=CONFIG]124234[/ATTACH] |

I just finished it. It is beautiful but time consuming not a quicky. I just took the directions and did one by one and they came out fine. It sounds confusing but is not just start and do each step then you will say Oh!

I would email the designer. She should be able to explain exactly what she means. Connecting Threads just sells it, and probably won't be much help with the directions. I would go right to the source of the problem. ;-)
